3 recent additions, all 1:18 scale, all bought within the last week.

First, one of 750 white prototype VF Commodore race cars from Biante. They've reduced the level of detail on these to bring the price down, and it really shows when I compare it against some of the other older 1:18 race cars I've got - the boot doesn't open for example. Still it RRPs for $60 less than the previous gen cars.

This was sitting in reception at work for a few days (came straight down from Sydney) and having had a poke around I'd say the model is pretty good.

Next, I discovered a new shop and came away with this: Volvo 240 Turbo DTM WINNER WUNSTORF 1985 PER STURESON #21

And finally, Who ya gonna call?

Working from home today & tomorrow so thought I'd grab a few shots of a couple of my boats as I began preparing them for a sailing day. My apologies on poor photography, not one of my sting suits.

1/200 USS Hornet, fully RC. In the process of weathering and finishing off, need to find a crew also.

1/200 Bismark, fully RC, full sound, RC main guns counter rotate, currently working on a smoke system.

1/200 Yamato, full rc, rc guns, lights & sound. It is the original 1970 mould so no where near as detailed as today's models. I've up-graded with as much photo etch parts as I had laying around. Needs weathering and finishing off.

Hi Rich,

Not yet, it will be a maiden voyage for the Aircraft Carrier with her top deck in place but should be getting out over Christmas as soon as the wind drops. Whilst they are all fairly stable any high wind or chop puts them at risk.

I'll try and get some better shots afloat in the near future.

Regards

The boy and I have almost finished the RC car that Father Christmas brought him - his first one, and the first one I've had any experience of since the Hornet I had as a child:

Good fun!

I bought the Airfix double Mini pack over Xmas, but wasn't sure I'd ever make them.
As my wife loves her Mini, she thought she'd have a go!

She hasn't made a model in her life, but she seemed to enjoy it and took her time. The first effort was the green one, and then the red (using the same Chilli red as her car). Fot the other paints, she ditched the ones that come in the box and used my Vallejo acrylics instead.

The roof decal was a bit dodgy, so she didn't apply it to the second attempt..

I was surprised by this, so I have just bought her this, to get her teeth sunk into, as she said she enjoyed building those little 32nd scale Mini's:

Great stuff, the Wraith is the sort of RC car I was looking for years ago when all that was available was tailored for speed. Great with a big area to play in but I was more interested in the slow-speed obstacle dodging.

I keep looking at the price of these things then tell myself I should spend more wisely, then I had a £250 Christmas bonus and looked again. ;-)
I am sure you PH'ers will be responsible and talk me out of buying the kit version...

Go for it - they are massive fun, even if the upgradeitis can get expensive.
PS the G6 isn't a Wraith, its a modified SCX-10 chassis, this is a wraith.
Wraith with blossom 1 by MBBlat, on Flickr

The wraith has a tubular space frame chassis, while the SCX-10 has a ladder frame. The Wraith also runs bigger wheels (2.2 vs 1.9) and different suspension geometry. Both are very capable off road.

Prefer the scale stuff over out & out crawlers, unfortunately no one does a WJ grand Cherokee shell so I can copy my real Jeep frown If I can find a decent sized WJ model I would be tempted at making a lexan shell off it.

Hi MBBlat,
exceedingly tempted now! Having recently completed the rebuild of my 100" Bowler I think this would be a good project to tackle. What upgrades would you recommend to incorporate at the build stage?

Hmmm, been thinking about on of these myself. I could do with something to build and have been considering an SCX10 with Defender D90 body and go the 'scale' route. On the face of it a bit cheaper than the Gelande version, although by the time it's been fully kitted out and upgraded probably not by much!

You could go all out and follow the advice here
http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/axial-wraith/379686...
The upgrades will cost more than the kit though.

Alternatively build from the box, have fun until something breaks, replace the broken part with an upgrade. With the kit you get the front universals and uprated universals anyway. If you are going for speed and /or a brushless motor then possibly add the metal gear set at the start. Replacing the front steering links with metal is probably a good start as well, as the stock plastic is a bit bendy, just pair it with a high torque servo.

A set of beadlock wheels will save having to glue on the tyres.
Any 6" posable action figure to act as the driver.

My Mods-
Aluminium Steering Links
Aluminium C-hubs & knuckles
Aluminium diff cover for looks
GPM suspension links
Axial Front Sway Bar
G-made piggyback shocks on the front
Inner wings
Lighting kit off ebay
Metal gear set
Tekin Redline Gen2 Sensored 13.5 Brushless Motor (new)
Castle creations Mamba Max Pro ESC (new)
Savox SW-1210SG steering servo
Axial beadlock wheels
Spectrum 2.4G receiver
