My wife has just completed her 1:12 scale Tamiya Rover Mini 1.3i - I think she really enjoyed making it!

I think the only thing wrong is the rocker cover, which may be the wrong way ...

It is but not to worry I think on a BMC A-series it would fit either way! More to the point is the paint finish which is perfect, did you spray it?

Thank you! She had a go at me for posting it on here, as she thought everyone would, and I quote, 'Rip the st out of it'

It is all her own work - I bought all the paints and sprays - but I think I got the wrong spray varnish and the finish is more like a red pearlescent with sparkly bits!

She put the bonnet and side stripe decals on earlier, but they didn't look so good, so I told her to remove them, it looks OK as it is, I think.

have bought her a Revell VW camper van to try next! hehe

What's the little radiator stuck on the side of the inner wing? My old mini never had one of those.

I also wondered what that was, so I looked in my wife's Haynes manual (Bought her this as she wants to buy and tart up an old Mini at some point), and it is the engine ECU! The Tamiya model depicts a 1992 Cooper.

Thank you! I was surprised at just how carefully she painted the various bits, the windows especially!

I have these at home but cant take any credit for them.

They were hand made by my late granddad and the sails stitched by my nan.

They are incredibly detailed and im starting to get worried about them deteriorating; i dont suppose anyone could give me any tips on cleaning such a delicate object and would they benefit from a case?

They look very well built, a credit to your late granddad.

I use a small air compressor to blow any dust off, I have found that this is the best method. (I actually design and build the prototype model wooden ship kits for a kit manufacturer...)

You could also try a hairdryer (on low speed/cold setting) to gently blow the dust away

I was thinking of a can of compressed air as sold in computer shops; the rigging has become very brittle so i need to be very careful when handling them.

A friend suggested a very light mist spray of water once the dust has been blown off; is this really a good idea?

I might test out my carpentry skills and make up a case.

Firstly they look excellent and as they are a family heirloom I would get them into a case as quickly as possible. As said blowing off the dust will be best but personally I would put water on them. The sails would almost certainly not like it and may shrink so why risk it?

I agree - don't put the models anywhere near water for cleaning.

For the rigging, I usually run watered down PVA through the lines with my fingers to eliminate the hairy look..

Thanks for the advice guys.

Will take a look at making up a case for the smaller one at the weekend and depending on how that goes i might attempt a larger one.

B&Q have some oak 27mm angle moulding that would look quite nice and i can get some greenhouse glass cut locally to fit that i can bond in place.

p.s. Barry, have you seen Chris's ships on this thread? He wouldn't blow his own trumpet but they are fantastic.

This is unfinished. It's an AMT/Ertl kit from 19notalot. I started this as a teenager but life got in the way. I was building it as the Vanishing Point Challenger OA5599 (Colorado plates, obviously!) so I made the R/T bonnet as the kit came with the shaker hood instead. In addition the kit has side exit exhausts whereas the Vanishing Point car had 4 square megaphone tips out the rear valence.

What do you all reckon? Worth finishing? :/

Here's my 1:43 F1 Drivers champion collection, I only started collecting last year and i've already managed to get over 20. I try to collect the older cars with the tobacco liveries on. I hope this works as i've not used my photobucket account for a while and sorry about the crap quality pics taken with my phone. Some of the models i'm looking for seem to be a bit elusive, mainly Raikkonen's 2007 Ferrari is almost impossible to find with the driver figure in and Marlboro sponsors livery. Most of these are sourced from Ebay and some from a guy that converts them and sells from his website

And this one arrived Friday

My latest RC - Vatarra Twin Hammers kit
Twin Hammers by MBBlat, on Flickr

Transferred the brushless motor from my Wraith, which has been re-powered with a sensored motor. I'm not overly impressed compared to the Axial models, for a starter there are no spare screws provided at all, its already on an upgraded spur gear and I cannot get it to shift into top gear.
