I keep getting tempted by Iwatas.
That's what I was going to get. I guess at that sort of quality level, user skill is the key rather than the capabilities of the airbrush.

Lovely work yet again, Eric.

On the topic of airbrushes, for detail work airbrushes I always follow two basic rules;

1) get the best you can afford

and combined with that,

2) the one that is most comfortable to use.

I'm sure that's good advice - and I might well take it (just make sure I don't tell the wife smile).

Just sometimes the most expensive isn't the most comfortable (not often mind!) so you can help sell it that way.

Whilst talking comfort, it's surprising how much something like this (top item);

http://www.everythingairbrush.com/acatalog/Airbrus...

can help.

My airbrush is one of the AB range - I can't remember offhand which version it is. It might just need a new needle.

This is going really off topic, apologies!

I use a couple of AB's for general blocking out work. What I've found is that they benefit from a really really good clean every now and again (Badger airbrush cleaner is excellent and then a session in an ultrasonic bath). Also, going at the nozzle with a needle with a standard pencil eraser can work wonders.

For the money I think they're and excellent buy, you just need to be a bit more fastidious in cleaning them due to the inevitable slightly poorer tolerances. I find the nozzle also benefits from a poke and scrape with an old needle or pin (sewing variety).

Great work again Eric, I always like to see rigging on models, it can be difficult on 1/72 though.

I know what you mean about complex camo, I'm doing a green/grey Jaguar GR1 at the moment and I'm going to have to do all the bluetack masking again.

I'm starting a Mustang F51 now and it's going to be silver. smile

Thanks for the compliments. I normally leave off aerial wires but DrGrn embarrassed me in the past when I left one off a model so I decided I'd bettter put one on.

I'm looking at doing the old FROG Sea Vixen for my next build. No mottle and no wire aerials.

They will be a feature of all my models in future - those that have them, of course.

I've even seen trailing wire aerials on Boeing 737s.

Success with an airbrush starts with the compressor, regardless of the quality of the airbrush.

Hi Eric

I've been away for a few days and there you go getting busy again

very nice look to the Arado, good diorama feel to it too

(hope the pilot notices the bike in front of him smile )

Stretching dark coloured sprue give amazingly easy trailing wires to fit, makes good loop aerials too when wrapped round a brush handle while warm and allowed to cool down.

I always prefer the look when fitted, the model becomes closer to real life.. By the way the bf110, it looks great in your IPMS post.

Thanks.

Next up will be the rather ancient (1976) FROG Sea Vixen - in its 1998 Revell guise. It's a bit of a beast to subdue but I'm determined to produce something passable.

I knew I'd regret going to the Yeovilton Air Day.

I shall look forrards to seeing that one Eric

You and gn may be pleased to hear, I went to The Silverstone Classic today and while pottering around the trade stalls I came across the old Airfix Aston Martin DB5 ( I think, no box art) in a bag at £2 (small tube of adhesive included, I just had to!)

So yes I did

I now have to build a CAR (not my usual scene)

but it's a (re)start

Once a modeller, always a modeller smile

The main thing now is to build the thing quickly, in a relaxed way and not to put pressure on yourself.

Finally fnished the Stuka.

It's the 1/72 Revell/Italeri kit and is a nice "modern" model. It should have gone together much easier than it did but that was all down to cackhandedness by me. It was also the first model I've painted using my new Harder an Steenbeck airbrush and I am very happy with its performance.

Looks a very good model Eric, glad you like the new airbrush!

One obvious comment is that the scottie dog emblem on the port side looks to be the wrong way around. A decal error presumably?

Yep - nothing I could do about that apart from finding alternative decals - which I didn't have.

Nice to see an aerial wire too.

They will feature on all my models from now on smile (Where appropriate, of course).
