A whole squadron of Spits for £40....tempting- though they might look a bit odd all having the same markings on them.

Hornby are really pulling out all the stops to get kids back into kit bashing. Well done them.

Quite agree Eric. It will be good to see kids using their hands constructively. It also increases dexterity, concentration and even attention to detail. All good things IMHO.

And it makes good business sense - you have to keep adding new customers in at the bottom end to repl;ace those shuffling off the mortal coil at the top end.

It appears Airfix are giving away free 1/72 Spitfire kits at the Hendon Battle of Britain celebrations this weekend as well.

Must have someone new at airfix, new website, then this, really giving it a push. Its crazy the amount of spitfires they do now.

Has anyone on here completed A50055, the 1:24 with prop motor etc, would like to see a nicely painted finished model before i try one.

No, it's Hornby putting their weight behind the brand. They have taken three years following their purchase of the company to assess what direction they wanted to take Airfix and work out an appropriate marketing strategy.

Haven't got the Spitfire, but I've bought a couple of prop motors to fit into one of my 1/24 Mosquitos.

There's ambition - although one of the lads at Farnborough intends to have a motor driven undercarriage retraction system in his. He demonstrated the working mechnism a few months back.

Hmm! now there's a thought. I have bought the AlleyCat Sea Mosquito conversion for my other Mossie kit, best way I could think of to aid display, biggrin

By the time you add together the cost of the kit and all the after market add-ons, you could have built a real one.

I may be exaggerating.

Meh. Can't see the point of animating stuff unless it's a flying model.

(then again I'm a miserable t*at).

They are doing well with Corgi as well, my dad helps them do some of the research and so on and the lengths they are going to listening to people and trying to get details right is quite reassuring.

Think theres a new Airfix Mk1 Spitfire kit coming out too so they will be getting rid of all the old stock but maybe im just a cynic.

You're not wrong there Eric. But then I got both Mossies at way below their RRP so could afford to splash out on AM stuff.

Excellent spot guys. Have just ordered that for my Scouts so we should get a good couple of evenings programmes out of it an dthen they all have something to take home at the end of it too.

Might inspire them to move on to some bigger and better stuff afterwards.
