Indoor contra-rotating helicopter seems like a bargain for £25 after a quick demo this morning. The bloke in the shop hammered it into the ground a couple of times and it bounced no problem.

Would you like to borrow a blade mcr so you can practise?
Weighs nothing, indoor only but dead easy and will give you the knack or orientation?

Happy to post with radio gear batteries and the like if it's of interest??
thank you for the kind offer smile

I ordered a Training gear set for it aswell...from what I've seen on youtube I think/hope I'll be alright with it

I know the theory of helicopter flight from PC flight sims.

I might well take you up on the offer, I'll see how I get on

I've got one of those £25 ones, brilliant little thing. Been trying to master the take off from table, land on the chair whilst avoiding the dogs flight plans biggrin

Best £25 I've spent in a long time, stays up for about 10 mins on one dose of usb charge & seems quite crash worthy too.

Honestly, about the best thing is the blade- from never flown one to reasonable competance in 10 mins.

Next stop for me is a century products chinook- big, 2.4ghz radio gear and about £120 all in. Looks great, and being large should be quite stable.

I too bought an RC helicopter a couple of years ago - it's on top of a wardrobe and has been for a while. It's a reasonable size outdoor battery powered version; a few hundred quid. I spent a lot of my time bulk ordering new parts :-)

The training gear is worthwhile but only helps out on those slightly 'off' landings not the "Oh ****!" ones!

Fascinating things and a real challenge to start with (I didn't get much further than starting really); they are very sensitive to set-up - the pitch and balance of the blades amongst other things.

Actually, if it's not too breezy out tomorrow I might make sure I put it away in working order (!) and if I did charge up the batteries and have a go!

Check out RADD's School of Rotary Flight . It's a REALLY good guide for beginners, I wish I'd stumbled across it before I could fly!

BTW, if you get 'bitten by the bug' and start to learn 3d maneuvers, I can't stress how much money a decent simulator (RealFlight, Phoenix, Reflex, et al) will save you in the long run.

I spent about 60 notes on a big one of these. It looked excellent. Had to wait all night for it to charge then first thing in the morning I was into my flight suit.....for all of 20 mins. Popping it up and down was no priobs....A little bit of rotation seems a little trickier as it moved off it's location. 10 mins later and it slammed into the wall. The dog thought it was great, but the Mrs was none too pleased with the marks on the wall.
Result was a little plastic thing on the rotar was broken. No probs, I'll super glue it. It was good for another 10 mins until it hit the wall again and broke. The Mrs has now banned indoor use, and I can't be trusted with it outdoors.

I bought a remote control plane a while ago, only a ready made one but quite large and still cost enough!
When i was ready for the maiden voyage my wife came out to watch. I told her I planned to throw it off the balcony of our flat (it was 1st floor and faced fields only) for the launch and if I could get the hang of it I would try to catch it when I was finished, or if not land it on the road to the side (no through road and very quite). oh the optimism!
It was great, I launched it successfully, for a couple of seconds, then pushed one lever gently forward to see what happens, it arched up into the sky, so i pulled it down again so it completly nose dived straight into the tarmac road, obliterated into a thousand pieces. full flight from launch to 'landing', 10 seconds max.
oh how my wife laughed

The moral of the story? Don't be a bloke, read the instructions first hehe
