I happened to pay a visit just because it was a rainy day and I couldn't remember the last time I'd been there. I'd completely forgotten that there was a scale models exhibition on Saturday. Vast amounts of scale models of all sorts were on show complete with a number of impressive working remote control tracked vehicles with smoke generators and such.

Managed to resist purchasing any number of models for too complicated for me to ever have a hope of putting together

They have two model shows a year at the museum. There will be another one sometime in February 2011.

Are they worth heading along? Live quite local and always see signs up for them, however I never get round to it.

I'd go if was more local. My model club in Farnborough sometimes attends so I could very well go along with them.

Whilst I am not hugely into scale models (after spending far too much on Warhammer 40k as a child), I was impressed at the amount of stuff on show and the participants were from far and wide. As well as standard kit assemblies there were some good diaramas (sp?) on display and a few how-to workshops going on. Given that the £12 entry fee (if gift aided) gives you 12 months free run on the museum anyway, its worth it in my view.

The museum itself gives you the chance to get right up to the aircraft, indeed exhibitors were tucked under wings, below tails etc which is a rare thing. My only gripe is that the lighting is a bit poor for a point and shoot camera, especially in the carrier exhibition where the stars of the show in my view (buccaneers) are.
