About 16 years ago, in an attempt to regain my youth, I was bought a model of my favourite Ferrari:

It quickly progressed, starting with the engine, which I decided to put on the display stand rather than in the car:

The interior followed as well:

Then came the bodywork, which is where it all stopped:

How to paint it? I didn't have an airbrush, although I did get as far as buying a can of Tamiya spray paint, but it never got used.
The model survived two house moves, and this weekend I got it down from the loft in a bid to carry on, in a second attempt to relive my youth!
All the paint tins were solid, but they can be bought again.
I think I will try and remove the engine from the stand and put it inside the car this time.
The bodywork dilemma still remains; I will not be buying an airbrush, so please can someone recommend the best method to spray the red bodywork?
I see from browsing model shop websites that spray paints are available, whats best, and do you need primer etc before the top coat?
All suggestions gratefully received if you want to see any further progress!
Thanks

Halfords plastic primer and car sprays are the way to go. Use some micromesh polishing cloths as well to get a beautiful smooth finish and then some wax.

Thanks for that; well I took the plunge:
In primer:

And top coat rosso red:

Very pleased with the results for a first attempt. Will get some micromesh cloths for the polishing stage, although the finish looks better in the flesh than it does in the pics.
Also managed to get the engine into the car with a bit of careful un-gluing:

Can get on with a bit more detailing the inside and engine while the bodywork hardens off.
Thanks for the help.

Nice, you might want to consider a clear lacquer coat on top for the body - gives a bit more depth, making it safer to polish.

Well after a few fitting problems and some chassis surgery it's complete:

I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out, especially the paint, which was the reason for the long delay really.
Being picky I would say it sits a bit low at the front with the weight of the model on the suspension, so I may raise that up a touch. But overall, good, and now I have the bug again so will be building more.

You've done a great job. It's always good to complete a model, especially 'unfinished business'!

Wow, that's a fantastic job - I never had that sort of patience when I assembled models in my youth lol
