As the title says.

I really want the Tamiya M-05 Fiat Abarth 1000 TCR Berlina Corse. However its about £135 from most online retailers. I have spotted a seller on eBay doing them for £70.69 + £25.00 shipping. I would happily pay that price for it but can they be trusted????

Cheers

Whats their feedback like would be the obvious starting point.

The majority of there feedback is good. However there are some negative (this person is a power seller so has a hell of a lot of feedback).

The eBay username is 'dinball' I am just a bit wary of buying something from the other side of the world.

Will you also get hit up with extra taxes when/if the item gets to the UK?

•We will stamp the fix item value on the form CN22 which smaller size parcel in USD10.00 and large size parcel in USD50.00. We don't responses for any tax charges of the item price difference from the form CN22.

I bought a tamiya kit years ago. 7 days delivery, easy as.

It depends what you are after though? Most can normally be found closer, albeit for a few quid more

His feedback looks fine to me, most of the negs and neutrals are because it was out of stock. Pay with paypal and you'll be fine (its absolutely st for sellers, but gives you as a buyer good protection).

Bear in mind if it gets taxed it may bring it up to the UK price, in which case you'll pay the same but have slower shipping and no warranty. Having said that, i've ordered loads of stuff from HK and have never been taxed, not even when the box for one delivery was big enough to lie down in.

Dinball is one the major Hong Kong RC importer, 1000s of people in the UK and USA us them. So their reputation is as good as it gets for foreign shops.
The only thing yo need to be aware of is the potentially long delivery times and of course the import tax.
With small items and parts they tend to always get through unoticed, however with a big purchase like a whole RC kit you have to be prepared to pay import tax if it gets caught. Most get through but you have to accept it is a lottery and just suck it up if you get asked for import tax.

I ordered the 50th anniversary kyosho mini-z monster from dinball a little while ago. Never arrived and then they claimed it had been damaged in the post and had never left hong kong. I have a funny feeling that they never had it in stock due to the rarity. Got refunded but couldn't get one from anywhere else by that time, still a bit bitter to be honest. However ordered a load of upgrade parts for the kyosho ZX-5s and had no problem with delivery or customs. It's all a lottery with hong kong purchases I'm afraid.

Also don't forget that if you get nabbed by customs you'll have to pay £8 customs handling charge as well as the tax they put on.

you will be unlucky to get nabbed by customs, I have bought several from hong kong with no issues. risky if you are looking for a box to arrive in mint condition and you expect to keep it NIB

MY experience: I bought from Dinball in July this year, the item came really really quickly
and no 'unexpected' payments!!

Cheers for all the advice guys smile

I was going to order it this morning, however I have just been offered a NIB Tamiya Mclaren MP4/13 F103RS at a very good price biggrin

I always wanted one when I was younger but it was out of my price range. Although I do now have the dilemma of whether to build it or just store it somewhere and forget about it for a few years.

Build it!
Why would you just store it. Are you expecting it to be another Sand Scorcher?

thing about the mclaren is you need to find somewhere perfectly smooth to use it if you build it - but it will be great fun if you do wink

I don't really see the point of those things. As you say it has to be used on really smooth surfaces and surely the track would have to be massive if you were to use the scale speed of an F1 car!

this is fine up to the point where your runner breaks, and you put the electrics into a shelfer "to see if they fit"...
