Scale Model World - Telford

Anyone expecting any particular bargains to be had at the show?
There often are. People like Modelzone often have reductions on selected kits (I bought the Revell Junkers 290 - a massive model - for half price a couple of years ago). For IPMS members only, there is the Kit Swap where members can bring and buy kits. I've picked up some good bargains there - but it is members only.
The IPMS have to strike a balance between making the show attractive to traders so don't allow individuals on the club stands to sell their own kits - which you do see at the regional shows.
For me the presence of the traders is as big an attraction as the model display. I'm curently building up my "wants" list.

Just a heads up to let the scale modellers here know that the annual model show at Telford will be on this weekend. It's the biggest scale model exhibition in the UK (possibly Europe) and there will be all sorts of models on show as well as loads of traders etc.
As a bonus, on Monday, the nearby RAF Museum at Cosford will open its restoration centre to the public so you can see the work being carried out there in the workshops.
Will you be taking any / many pictures Eric? If so, please feel free to share! As a bonus, on Monday, the nearby RAF Museum at Cosford will open its restoration centre to the public so you can see the work being carried out there in the workshops.
I popped down on Sunday with my brother. £9 entry.... Come on!!!!! plus another £3.50 for parking.
Rip off for entry , and not as many displays as i expected. The builds were stunning though. Clearly there are some very , very talented kit / scratch builders out there. If anybody looked at the crashed C-130 diorama then they will know what i mean.
Managed to get a brand new Airfix Sea King kit for £3.00 though.

My Father is chairman of a club and exhibits here, and indeed all over the country, each year (often prize winning). He was here this weekend too. I'll see if he has any photos and will post if so.
Hi Gretchen, are they any shows nearer London... would love to have gone to Telford, was just a bit far! Does these people not realise that London is the centre of the universe!Had a great day on the Saturday, although I too thought £9.00 was a bit on the steep side. Sorry couldn't get to meet you Eric, just ran out of time. Met loads of people from Britmodeller and had a nice time on the Harrier SIG stand. Anyway her are some piccies from the day.
The Airfix stand had some of their new kits on show. Must get my hands on the Sea Vixen and Valiant, not to mention the Seafire XVII.

I did stop by the Farnborough stand to say hi to Eric Mac, I was told he was off spending money.
First show for me, had a great time, if short. Only downside was the main car park was full by 10:15 (Sat)

Just got back yesterday. It was ALMOST as good as ever although I think the numbers attending might have been a bit down.
The car parking was a bit worse than normal due to the fact that construction work has just begun on the new extension to the centre. I would expect matters to be much better next year.
I hadn't realised that the general admission was £9. As an IPMS member, I get in free. Next year they plan to allow under 16s in for free too as they want to make a big effort tp encourage youngsters to take an interest in models and kits.
I'll post up my pictures when I get a moment. I've a mountain of real work to catch up on.

Does these people not realise that London is the centre of the universe! The various IPMS branches in the London area all have model diisplays once a year. The biggest one is probably Hornchurch - which is usually held in March. Farnborough may be a bit far out for someone in the London area but we host our Modelfest in September. There is also now a plastic model section to the Model Engineering Exhibition at Alexandra Palace in January.

That's a bit depressing.http://ipmsnl.netfirms.com/shows/telford-2010/smw-...
It is a tad depressing
so many models skilfully devised and then ruined with panel lines that make them look like technical drawings
only kidding, not really many of them but oodles of inspirations on every table
nice to see the desire and ability still abound
And see that some of the subjects are the same as they were thirty years ago
I enjoyed seeing these
Wish I had been able to go
next year definitely
