Hey everyone, I've just bought and built a Tamiya Dark Impact for a bit of playtime fun. Thinking I had bought all I needed it turns out an ESC wasn't included in the starter kit to get it running. It's only a bit of fun so i don't need anything too exotic. I have found this http://www.modelsport.co.uk/?CallFunction=ShowSpec...
Would that be ok to run it? I don't think I'll be going to brushless and LiPo for a while so don't need that ability in this ESC.

Thanks for your help in advance and enjoy the F! smile

Looks like a re-branded Mtroniks to me - if it is then it will be an OK unit, nothing special and will simply get the job done!

However if you are using the standard silver can you might get a little bored of the speed.

Search ebay for an ezrun/hobbywing brushless setup - more money but you will only end up buying one in the end anyway! Although cheap they are possibly the best recomended on the market!

Something like this is quite good -

Quite a bit faster but not stupid enough to be putting extra strain on the soft gearset, also normal batteries will last a while still.

Thanks, thought they would be more expensive than that. Next question (sorry about this, haven't messed about with r/c cars for 15 odd years and a lot seems to have changed), what do all the 9t, 18t, 5.5t stuff mean? It doesn't seem to make much difference to the price regardless of if the number is higher or lower

The lower the number the faster the motor. They generally also have a kv rating. The 9t is 4300kv and the 12t 3300kv

Sweet, looks like this car will be emptying the wallet quicker than I expected! Uprated gearbox maybe needed as there is a 5.5t system on ebay for a great price

I'm running a 5.5T EZRun in my DF-03 on standard internals. Mental!
