EDIT Sorry all, Got my sizes mixed up. I am looking for something the same sort of size as a RC Car 15cm long ish! (1/12?) Can't edit topic title unfortunatly.

Good morning all,

I am looking for something to build over the xmas period and have decided i would really like to build a LMP car of some sort. I spotted a model of the Porsche RS Spyder LMP2 model in another thread although i think it was a pre-built model but really liked the idea of building one if possible.

Ideally i would like to build something that is quite large. I do not have alot of experience as i belive the last time i built a model was as a child, but it has always been something i wanted to do.

Does such a thing exist in that sort of scale, looking over the web i have not found anything in the way of larger models for LMP cars. It seems to be smaller models only.

I will also be looking to purchase things such as airbrush kit etc to get me started but is there anything else that would be classed as essential when starting out in the way of tools.

Rob.

As usual I'd reccomend a Tamiya model. Their 1:12 range is impressive, but they only have only a couple of LeMans cars, and only older ones. It's doubtful you'd finish it over Christmas, they are quite complicated. I'd go for a 1:20 or 1:24 model to start with. Try here:

Regarding a tool kit, someone asked yesterday: look at post 8 here:

15cm long would mean you're looking at 1/24 or so. 1/12 would be substantially bigger.

1:12 would be about 15" not 15cm. Maybe got mixed up?

Thank you for all the replys.

I had got my sizes all mixed up yes, and am sorry about that. Was just finishing a long night shift!

Ive had a think about it today and 1/12 is the ideal scale although as has been said there isnt anything in the way of modern LM builds available. From browsing around i found the Mclaren MP4/6 which looks absolutely amazing.

I am not really fussed if it takes longer than the xmas period if anything thats a bonus but i will be looking at other smaller scale models aswell. I think i will buy the MP4/6 as soon as i find a good price anyway and possibily a smaller scale model to build first to clear the cobwebs away.

The idea of this build is to get me away from a PC screen so i am really looking forward to focusing on something else.

Also many thanks for the idea of the 1/12 Porka! Possibily on my "To build list" once i get going!

It's a great model, but deserves super detailling. Here's mine, built about 10 years ago 'out of the box'. Still looks good, but with photo-etch details and metal trumpets etc etc they look totally real.

Good luck with it and post some progress pics.

I have one of those in my stash - along with three or four other 1/12 cars. Ought to get to grips with them, really.
