Hopefully one of you chaps can provide an answer here, I was bought one of the Haynes Combustion Engine kits for Christmas, which reminded me how much fun I had as a kid building various models, so I've been out and bought myself a Tamiya 1:12 bike kit to build, and the smell of polystyrene cement has further added to the nostalgia.

I've managed to find all of the recommended pots of acrylic paint (and there were a lot) with only the spray cans to go. I've found what looks to be the only site in the UK that stocks the TS sprays, so I'm hoping I can get hold of the two colours I need from that line, which leaves me with two colours from the MS line of paints. MS-9 and MS-10 which are Fluorescent Orange and Fluorescent Yellow respectively. No-one seems to even list the MS line anymore, even counting those stockists who can't get hold of anything due to the labelling issue, yet still list all of the TS-paints in the hope they'll arrive soon.

I can remember reading somewhere that their line of polycarbonate sprays could be used in a pinch, provided a clear-coat was used on top, is this right? I was going to see if I could get hold of some of that Johnsons Klear to go over the kit anyway. It seems I can get hold of two identically named colours from this line.

Thanks in advance folks.

I used Tamiya Polycarbonate White mixed with Acrylic Blue to get the right shade for my Bae146 undersides (ran out of white and couldn't be bothered to buy a new pot of acrylic for that tiny job!):

Worked absolutely fine. Dries matt though, so just overcoat it with gloss or satin.

I also build 1:12 bikes & use normal acrylic spray paints but notice the Tamiya paints are now coming back onto the market nicely (TS) SP models stock the full range of TS & PS paints as does modelsport here,

Thanks guys, so I should be safe with the PS paints, provided I coat it with something glossy over the top, which I'll be doing anyway for the decals. Thanks for the link to the TS paints, they don't seem to have the TS 64 in anywhere yet though, which is what I was after.

As ever...try it on some scrap plastic first - including the varnish. Don't want any nasty surprises.

Cheers Gareth, only place I've seen stock TS-64 so far. Still saying they haven't got the MS paints though, thinking I might go for the humbrol gloss Orange and Yellow instead, doubt there will be a massive colour difference and I think the slight variation will be the last problem with the kit, considering it's my first attempt.
