often the skill in modelling is being able to invisibly cover your mistakes and mishaps.
Just noticed that the pitot-static tube under the wing is in the middle of where the roundel decal should go (just like it is on the previous 2 WW2 fighters I've built). I'll have to cut it off dammit.

Hmmm I sprayed the markings on mine, so it wasn't an issue.

Just about all masked up ready for upper camo now:

Painting the canopy (windscreen) sealing frame huh?

Like it, makes better sense than some of the models I see on Britmodeller where the canopy has huge scale gaps that would pull the blooming hood off along with the pilot's head too at 500mph

(refers to some very sad fast jet models I have seen out there)

Is this a special masking tape or just summat out of your DIY box?

edit for an after think

Windscreen sealing frame? I usually fit the windscreen after masking the glazed bits, then there are no gaps. Won't find out how good the join is until I get a coat of paint on it - the canopy glue is invisible!

The masking tape is Tamiya: perfect tack, not worth using anything else IMO. I always try to mask everything that doesn't need painting. If I don't, I can guarantee that a bit of overspray will find it's way into even the most unlikely place.

Tamiya tape is definitely the best out there. I have heard it being referred to as Kabuki tape as well. At least, I think they are the same product.

I wonder if I can get that at Modelzone in Brum?

Time for a ride on the buzz!

Not driving at the moment with busted bone

Eduard have switched to using it (Kabuki) in their pre-cut masking sets - if Modelzone don't stock it then Hobbycraft do.

Camo painted. Upper surface grey might be a bit too light (I dread to think what Perdu will make of it!), but...there's always something not quite right isn't there?

Strange diagonal line/scratch appeared on the engine cover - no idea how that happened, but an easy fix hopefully. Oh and the chuffing step broke off - again.

Well to be honest

and bloody boring too no doubt (I know me limitations)

This is the kind of colour I will be looking for with Tiffie

I like the darker contrast

I am beginning to really miss the old Humbrol Authentics, I had lots of faith in the colour accuracy back then. I have little but doubt about the Tamiya colours when given for RAF European Theatre

Now

about this model

The work you have done for the flaps is really excellent and the wheel wells you have look better than those in my Tiffie, (but that will look better when I have added hydraulics and actuator brackets)

You say the air flap behind the rad is wrong but it looks pretty good to me, with the flap fitted it will be great

I keep breaking stuff off mine, most recent? The armour plate behind the seat and its associated frame bars

doh

This looks like yet another dr_gn triumph - excellent

Can't wait to see it finished

All looking good so far. I wouldn't agonise too much about shades. At this distance in time it's not always blindingly obvious how bright or dark shades really were.

I sprayed the underside grey last night at it looks darker than yours - but I'm not too worried about it.

As ever, I'm using Xtracrylic for my main camouflage colours.

Thanks guys - as you all know I'm not good at colours. I think it will all darken anyway with a few layers of klear, weathering and some varnish.

Perdu, the rad flap is OK, it's the fuselage insert that was wrong - it ended in a hard step rather than being contoured to teh fuselage bottom.

ETA I already broke the head armour off several weeks ago!

Painted the white area of the stripes and the yellow leading edges last night, followed by a couple of coats of Klear. It's darkened the upper grey quite a bit, so it's about the right shade now I think.

That's looking good - did you pre-shade it?

Also, I wish you lot would stop talking about Klear - I've never been able to find any locally, and I believe it's discontinued now...

Would it be awfully annoying to mention that I found an unopened bottle when clearing out the under stairs cupboard last weekend?

Though so.... getmecoat

Looking very nice dr, did you take any pics of the shading before the topcoats?
