This is the wee beasty I'll be building for the GB. It's going to be an interesting build being a short run kit with no location pins, but it does have nice resin and etched parts.

Is this the first Mk.II builder? All the others seem to be the Mk.1/V alternative design with the low scoop.

Am I right in remembering that the Matchbox version had both front ends in the box, and you could build whichever version you wanted?

Yes I think you might be right Dr_Gn. I've always like the MkII, not sure why, it just seems more graceful than the MkV with it's huge radiator under the nose.

Yes dr_gn, the Matchbox Tempest had both Sabre and Centaurus cowlings, with RAF and Indian AF markings.

Mine was in orange and brown plastic!

It seems a strange old world to me when I can't just pop into the corner shop to pick up a Matchbox Kit

My unbuilt Matchbox Tempest was of an unusual colour cast too

Wonder where it went? frown

Yep - the MkII came with a set of quite colourful Indian Air Force decals.

Got a start on this afternoon. I quite like working with resin, but when you have to remove so much it does get a little tiresome. The green area is putty where I had a breakthrough, the sidewalls of the wheel wells are painfully thin.

Some basic painting on the pit. There's quite a lot of etch to go in here yet.

Although I got the fuselage, wings and empenage on a few days ago it has taken me this long to fill all the gaps and get the surface ready for primer. Still a bit of work never hurt anyone.

Will probably need more filling and sanding after primer. Need to get it right as I'm doing an all over silver finish.

Nice job.

Is the interior green a specified colour for the wheel wells? Mine says silver, but I prefer green.

I've seen them green and silver, but since the aircraft is going to overall silver, I took a bit of artistic licence to give a bit of colour variation.

Nice. Just the sort of inspiration I need to get this build back on track.

Good stuff! Nick F's got his kit out again too. Now, I'm off to see if I can get Zaxxon back on side..
