GB: Special Hobby Tempest II - Shar2
Discussion
Just to show I haven't thrown this kit against the wall, although it's been pretty close a few times. Still have to touch up the wheels and headrest, and respray the underside, (again), then I might just be able to add some decals. Certainly not my best build by a long shot and I now realise why I'm getting rid of all my other 1/72 scale kits.

Looking good - what did you use for the silver finish? I'm thinking of building a Sabre next so I'm looking for good Silver finishes
I agree, it looks great in that colour (which is a difficult colour at the best of times). Job very well done.I'm looking at building my Tamiya S2000 that's been unfinished for 10 years or so. I'm tempted to try Humbrol Metal Cote for the exhausts etc. I only used it once before, but I think it might work very well on a natural metal aircraft, especially if you mix slightly different shades for diffent panels.
Thanks guys. TS, I used Alclad Airframe aluminium. If you're doing a Sabre then I can highly recommend the Alclad stuff, especially as they do several shades of aluminium. If you use Alclads primers/microfillers as well then you can get some lovely finishes. You do have to be very exacting with the prep though as it will show up all the flaws.

By a complete coincidence, just looked on BM, and this guy's used MetalCote on a Meteor. He brush painted it, but even so, it's...shiny!http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?showt...

That's scary blingey
I wouldn't judge it unless I saw the original machine though
but unaided... The colour is effective - however the finish looks
out of scale, as someone jokingly pointed out on Britmodeller
It's rub-n-buff gone ballistic
Definitely better if matt varnished IMO
TS was asking about a Sabre, so a high polish bare metal finish would be fine assuming it was a brand new or freshly polised aircraft:I wouldn't judge it unless I saw the original machine though

Hence the link to Metal Cote. Seems far less hassle than Alclad (not that I've ever used it). With MetalCote you just spray it on and buff it with a cloth. I reckon it would look superb on a 48th scale or larger aircraft, especially if some shade variation was used.
