Frog (Rovex) Hawker Typhoon build [not GB]
Discussion
Looking very promising Perdu. One small point which I should maybe keep to myself but what the hell: On your cockpit sides, the silver framing paint looks slightly smudged onto the green sidewalls. Have you considered painting overall green and just dry-brushing the aluminium? Could well be being over-critical becasue it's not really clear from the photos.
So far I have resisted the temptation to spray some colour on the detailling I've done, but it's tempting...just to see what it looks like! Made that mistake on the last model, and it ended up a bit soft.
You got any ideas on hollowing microscopic exhaust stubs? I suppose I could have some grown, but it's a bit extreme for this model I think.
Keep up the good work!

Yes the sidewall tubing isn't finished yet, I left it to dry and moved on.
I always follow round and pick up all the little snags before closing the joints.
Looking at the cockpit pictures I've found all that tubing looks to be silver paint finished so I am going to keep it "colour finished" rather than a dry brush on green painted tubes.
have to say its great fun back in the saddle.
Even if I am too poor sighted these days to be able to do this stuff with nekkid eyes like I used to!

Any ideas on what the yellow stencil markings say on this bomb - I'm hoping to send RedFirecracker a decal detail request this week:
Ta.
Possibly summat on the lines of
RDX HE 500LB
But now I don't have dad to call on it's all just guesswork
He was an armourer during the war, probably able to reel these stencil details off in his sleep, bless him
It is just a basic H.E 500pounder after all
There must be a reference to this somewhere in cyberspace, just need a search term to find it
how about 500lb HE bomb?
never know your luck

I did find something on bomb markings on Google this afternoon, but I didn't want to pursue that particular line of enquiry while at work!RDX HE 500LB

Looked again this evening, but it applied to US bombs which were different.
Have you seen the Michael Turner painting of RAF ground crew having a tea break while re-arming Typhoons? It's great.
If you search google images for "WW2 RAF 500lb bomb", it's on page 8. Description says it's from 1943.
It's from the 'Unofficial Airfix Modellers' forum. The image doesn't seem to stay up for long on my screen, so I screen printed the image.
Regarding the colour of wheel wells. With the liklihood of a number of different squadrons & camoflage combos during its life, would it not be likely that when an aircraft left the factory it may well have had blue in the wheel wells, but subsequent deployments and exterior paint changes meant that in later life the wheel wells might not end up matching the exterior paint combo. In war conditions, who's going to bugger about with painting oily wheel wells full of pipes just to match the exterior?

The wheel wells were, as far as I know, originally either silver or interior green, neither of which would match any combination of exterior undersurface paint (at least not for a grey/green camo version).

I've got three of his books (Including the "How to paint stuff"), all very good. Should really get a couple more, but IIRC they are expensive and quite a few paintings are duplicated.I've been a fan ever since.

There are a few more which I'd like:
Probably more too.
This is exactly why I wanted this thread open for exchanges of ideas
I knew that the bomb's markings had to be out there
And so many other Turner books I hadn't see to look out for
I think the wheel wells will get a sort of washed out silver finish. Some of the colour on that picture I'm using seems to be "worn out" paint conducive to harsh conditions paint stress
Keep the thoughts and ideas coming folks
I picked up a Frank Wooton aircraft book in a charriddee shop some time ago
SHE hasn't forgiven me for it
(It had £7.50 on the label but the old dear at the counter thought it was "just a hardback book at £1.00"- I opened my mouth so the Hospice got what they'd asked for.. hell and fury
that's women!)

Spent some of Wednesday fitting the wheel well roof portions into the glued together wing halves and thinning doen the extra trailing edges to suit even more.
Not finished either the trailing edges or the wheel wells but have taken a rest tonight.
However
This afternoon I have been photoshopping the "Blind Flying Panel" to reduce and print onto a sheet of 0.005" polystyrene*
Obviously a little more reduction to do but it has to look better than my almost impossibly doddery paintbrush work

- (I'm glad I kept my old ATC manuals with their training package pictures of the standard BFP)
