Coming to a shop near you imminently. Already new ones on the bay for £300. This time it's just like the original proper one, but with some subtle engineering improvements for a change - CNC alloy instead of that cheap cast alloy. Everyone that was buying and selling the old ones (even the dodgy 2001 versions) for a £1000 on ebay are now dumping them in droves! Why people pay over RRP for Tamiya is beyond me when they have a track record in multimple releases of every model. Looking forward to the Bruiser next...

There's a rumour that Tamiya will be slowing right down on the re-releases, certainly of the old classics. I would expect a re-release of the Bruiser would appear on the F-350 High-Lift chassis - they have already put what is effectively the Mountaineer body on it.

I'm not convinced as Tamiya are a marketing led company, so will do whatever it takes to make those sales.

Have you seen the 4x4 Frog? This will be another way to redo those all the old kits with a modern twist:

I'd love Tamiya to re-re more stuff but can only go on what I have heard from the rumour mill.

The Frog in the photos is lovely but is a homebrew, not a factory car. Would be great if the T made this though...!

I always wanted my Hornet to go round corners properly. So I modified it as a kid, back in the day. I managed to get it quite a bit lower, but it was still pants handling. It was better when I put the Hornet body on my Mid Optima chassis! hehe

Wish they would re-release the Monster Beetle and BigWig...

Loving the rere kits from Tamiya. Bought myself a rere Sand Scorcher last year.

I'm afraid the rere Avante is way too expensive at £450 for me to justify a purchase this tome round. But it will still be a hot seller as RC kits from Tamiya are now mostly bought by people who had them/could not afford them when they were kids back in the 70's/80's. The last Playstation/Xbox generations are now more into their ipads/ipods then playing with radio controlled cars.Shame really as it is great fun.

fk yes.

The Avante 2001 was more than just a re-release. My favourite Tamiya by far, and I'm happy to say I have a couple of them.

I will certainly be buying this. Tamiya are just a quality manufacturer, far better than any of the alternatives.

I have an Avante 2011 on order with the local model shop that I hadn't been in for nearly 20 years!..nostalgia..I always wanted one but couldn't afford it back in the day..£450 does sound a lot, but its a 23 year itch & must be scratched. I reckon some of the price may come from Tamiya trying to discourage speculators buying the lot..seeing as how the original had been changing hands on auction sites for up to 4 figures!..the price may well come down eventually..depending on supply obviously

strenghened front uprights, carbon fibre chassis, extra set of standard style wheels, optional large protective front bumper seem to be the major updates..still looks almost exactly the same as 1988 though..can't wait for delivery..supposedly early february for the UK

Certaintly hoping the price will come down to the mid £200s but is highly unlikely I think.

The retail prices of the rere kits from the last few year haven't really dropped at all.

The new Avante are £300 on ebay. Why pay more?

But that's from non UK sellers.

UK Retailers are still showing £450 list price.

You sure that's for a new re-re Avante? Not a DF-03 Avante Mk.II?

If so, linky please so I can buy it!

I was looking at ordering from the far East on the bay, but I have gone to the local model shop doing the full nostalgia thing. After postage/shipping I may still have paid up to £100 over the odds but I am quite happy to do so. Grabbing the box off the same guy I used to see in the shop every saturday whilst dreaming of owning an Avante..priceless.

Will get the 2nd one I buy from the cheapest source available though...

Just do a worldwide search as they sell daily. Yes it's the 2011 best version to date. Postage only £36 too. No need for rip off UK...

They seem to be pretty random with import taxes. Sometimes I've paid the import and other times there's been no charge. To be on the safe side you can always ask for a low value to be placed on the parcel. Or even have it marked as "used goods", or "returned to customer after repair" to avoid it. Even if you do pay there will still be a lot of savings to be had.

Blimey that brings back memories,

I got one new for xmas in the 80s it was quiet a machine for its day.

I've also had

Grasshopper
Grasshopper 2
Hornet
Sand Scorcher
Manta Ray
Boomerang
Hot Shot
Falcon

Also had a whole bunch of smaller versions 1/32 scale? The went on a track and rollers attached to the bumpers used to guide them, they were about 2.99 - 4.99 at the time.
