I know its not exactly a real "scale model" and more a toy but I just won this on ebay for my son and I'm pretty chuffed!
I always wanted one when I was a lad but they were pretty expensive then, apparently they are very rare now and there is one on ebay for £300!
This one has no box and the cabin roof is missing so I paid a lot less. I couldn't justify that sort of cash.
I don't suppose there is any chance of getting parts now so I might have to make one out of plasticard or something.
Anyway sorry about the crappy ebay pics.

That looks great. I'm looking for something similar for my son, but ideally it would be RC. We found a nice pond while out walking the other day, and it's crying out for some form of model boat!

Is the Playmobil one motorised, or is that what the blue pod is for?

It's not motorised, the blue pod takes a AA battery and slides onto a clip on the keel if I remember correctly.
If you are willing to build a kit for RC, Model Slipway have a load of cracking boats although not really child friendly but I'm guessing your lad is maybe a bit older?
I have the "Maggie M" trawler and it would be a pretty sturdy kit for a youngster and it looks great.

That's a bit sophisticated for us! My son is 3 1/2 . I was thinking maybe of even making something very simple out of Depron and shove some old 27Mhz radio gear in it. Don't want to spend any real cash on it, it's just something to pass a few minutes when we go out for a stroll on a Sunday afternoon.

Ah! I did think I was maybe getting a bit enthusiastic!
There are loads of cheap, simple RC boats about. I would pop into your local model shop and see what they have.
Or have a look on ebay.

You should be able to pick up something suitable for a 3 yr old to play around with for about £30 in a local model shop. It won't be very sophisticated, but it will go forwards, backwards, left and right for about 5 minutes, which is probably when his boredom threshold will kick in.

The blue pod definitely goes onto the keel of that Playmobil boat and gives you zero control other than having the boat move away from you. They used to put them on Lego boats in the mid 80's and working ones are rare as hens teeth now.

Must admit I couldn't find much online like that. Do you have a link?

Cheers.

It's the right price, buta bit quick! The pond we found isn't that big!

The LHS only have this, which looks pretty similar, and probably just as quick!
