Propper coptors are really hard to fly, I've smashed up loads in the past. Some say they are as hard as the real thing.
Presumably the implications of crashing adds certain pressures to flying the real thing, with crashing loads not being a viable option. That said, when pete has flown an R22 he's never crashed but crashed several toy ones before.

Have flown for years, started in the late 70's. Ended up flying F3a at national level and flew against Paysant-laroux in the late 80's, (he ended up world champion for five years on the trot,( I lost against him!!)). Now fly fixed wing and 3D helicopters. (All electric)

Based in Park Gate if you want to come along and watch.

I used to fly with John Wallington and Len Mount, Colin Bliss etc back in the 80's. Len has published a book about his exploits. Never got to do 3D bu wasn't too bad at doing Auto's, loops, rolls etc etc. Would love to see you flying as i have an electric heli (Century 450) that i haven't had a chance to set up yet. Where do you fly out of interest?

Fly with Ash Davis at Burridge mostly. He's far better at 3D then me and has reached 6th at national level. I'm to old for 3D heli's really at 46 but I enjoy having a bash. My heart is still with F3a though to be honest!

More then welcome to come along, should be getting out more now as the evenings are getting lighter.

I'd be interested to now what F3a actually is. Reason being, amongst my collection of vintage Kyoshos, I have a couple of Concept 60s that are 'F3a spec'. One is a Concept 60 SRII and the other is the same, but the "Carbon Fram Edition" with the carbon fibre frame, lot sof nice Zeal upgrades etc.

Here's the SRII

The Carbon Frame Edition isn't even built - still "New In Box"...!

Yeah they do say that if you can fly a proper rc heli then you can probably fly the real thing.
I'll test this theory soon when I go for my first helicopter lesson. 7 years of r/c helcipter flying vs. the real thing. I suspect that the only thing that will not come naturally are the controls in that different limbs do different things in the real thing...! Delicate yaw control with my feet will be a challenge for sure.

In my time I tought quite a few people to fly, (all fixed wing), four of which were full size pilots and three of these were commercial. Only one went solo with models!

F3a is fixed wing aerobatics mate, so there isnt a rotaty wing model made that could compete in that class! I think F3c is rotary wing aerobatics and F3n is the new 3D class.

Ash maiden'd this on Saturday:-

dont get a sense of scale in the pic but its just under 1600mm across the rotors. Electric 12s model, motor is producing 5hp!

This is my 500:-

And my Katana 50E and 450:-

Damnit. I meant F3c. Confused with a bloke at the club that has an F3a model. What does it mean...? Specific rotor size / motor etc...? I have an F3c spec main gear upgrade for the Concept 60s. Bizarre.

Whereabouts in Burridge do you flay as I am only just down the road? I can PM you my mobile if you want to let me know when you are going there. Also, is it a proper club field or a private one as I have had great trouble trying to join a heli club as they all say they are already full!!

I wouldn't mind popping along too. I have been thinking about getting back into it.

Burridge Social Club ground, right on the Botley Road. Not a club field and not ideal but its local! Tend not to fly the Katana there is it covers a lot of ground, so stick to rotary wing, (Ash dosen't fly fixed wing anyway.)

Also fly at Hook Park but that's leccy only and you need to join the club to fly there, (although Ash is chairman so we can sort that for you!).

I'll PM my number over to you.
