Really nice, have looked at these a few times but always end up with a 172. Must get one one day, get the feeling most of them need a bit of work these days though.

I'd love to get a Clio Williams but the insurance is around 3-4 grand which is just a joke.
Sorry for the slight hijack but why is it so expensive??!!!

Absolutely lovely looking car, even having a Trophy there's something about the Williams I really hanker after.

Will be down to individual circumstances I reckon. When I was looking at buying my valver the insurance quotes for the williams were double that of the 16v.
This was back in 2007 when I had 0 no claims mind you, I paid £1,300 TPF&T to insure mine, the cheapest quote I got for the williams was £2,650 eek

sorry for the very late reply, because when i got the quote i was only 18, im 19 now but even if i insred it next year (when im 20) it would probab;y be around £2500-£3000 because of my age and i would only have 2yr ncb.

ok its time to start part two of the restoration (yes i know this will seem back to front) im about to have the engine/gearbox out so what i need to know from you guys is

1, who would you reccomend to rebuild the gearbox ?

2, i would like to have the head refaced, the lifters replaced and the valves reseated, who would you trust to do this ?

3, finally i would like to remove the lowered springs from the front end and return the car to its original set up, were can i get the springs ? (renault were no help with this )

would appreiciate your input guys many thanks

IIRC the original springs were the same as used on the mk2 Clios, so surprised Renault have been no help. The 16v used to have a white spot painted on the spring, but I can't remember if the Williams ran the same springs. I think it did, but different dampers.

Best to ask on Williamsclio.co.uk or clio16valver.co.uk. I got a set cheap off ebay from someone lowering their 172, when I had to repair my 16v.

I believe the springs from the 172 cup are the closest to original williams items. Renault are pretty useless tbh, get in touch with Paul at Renault Parts Direct, they're a main dealer but have been incredibly helpful to a lot of us Mk1 owners so will be able to help out

As for the other 2 points go see danny at 519 automotive, he's got my silly spec high compression F7R engine in his workshop atm & I trust him with that. The gearbox, he will recommend a company called Agency transmissions (or something like that) as that's where he sends anything gearbox related

If you're getting your hands dirty my advice is don't even bother touching the gearbox, in fact there's a guy on williamsclio & clio16valver with a brand new JB3 & a very very lightly used new JC5 that he's selling

Love love love that Clio. Top work that man.

I have a Renault 9 Turbo and R21 Quadra I want that done to, so i've bookmarked the bodyshop website. Would you say they were reasonably priced?
