A guy in Reader's Cars recently changed the Sachs to some other suspension, possibly H&R? Have a look in there.
Thats me wink

Thread here: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

For reference, ive owned a 172 Cup, a 182 with cup packs, 2 x Trophy's and a 197 Cup.

The Trophy is by far the best, with the 197 Cup lasting 3 weeks before i got sick of the cr4p mpg (28 lol), average level of speed, light steering and general averageness. It was supposed to replace the Trophy. It didnt.

I had a 182 with the cup packs and it was a great car.

Plenty of standard kit and drove like a thug, little car big engine
and the handling was superb, soaking up the pot holes and being able
to pick and stay on a chosen line.

MPG was fantastic (37 average for me) .. later cars like the 197 seem
to not do anywhere near as well as this.

Build quality not so good - you notice little things like the steering wheel
falling to bits and other trim pieces.

Have you got any experience in a 200 cup vs the Trophy?
I've decided the battle is between the Trophy and the 200 Cup. But the cup will need a loan for, would you sy it's worth the extra burden of £150 per month over the Trophy?

The thing with buying a Trophy is that it won't really depreciate that much. If you buy a 200 Cup the value is only going one way, and relatively quickly.

Yeah, i test drove quite a few in Feb/March this year. Then realised that i would rather have 3 x Trophy's than one 200. Also as already said, a £4k Trophy will stay a £4k Trophy for a long time, a £12k cup will be worth £5k in 4 years time.

I ended buying a 197 Cup with Recaros for £6.5k to try & limit the depreciation factor, but it just wasnt good enough to justify ANY premium over the Trophy to be honest, so it went.

That's a good point, and when I had one (2006-2009) the owners were a good bunch who looked after their cars.

They should have had the expensive five year service by now, which is one big bill out of the way.

The damper unreliability thing is a drawback but they do make for a very good ride for such a hard sprung little car. Depends where you live as the offical refurb place is at Silverstone.

Hmmm good point on the depreciation, I did not realise it would be so much on the 200.

I guess it's the Trophy, if I can find a decent car for £4000, else it will have to be a 182 cup.

Does anyone know this Trophy? (eBay link below)

And what do you recon?

I've seen you mention you got a new car. What did you get? A LY vee?
Got an Illiad one. Would never want a LY funnily enough, it's just a bit too much for me. I really like the Illiad as it's the 'classic' colour. I might've been tempted my a mars red or Lunar, but they don't come up that often. Still a fantastic machine and I can't believe how many people have spoke to me about it in the week I've had it. Too early to say best car ever, but certainly the one that is the best occasion to drive that I've owned/driven

On Trophy v 200 cup, it depends for what purpose you need it. My Trophy went for a 200 with cup but that was because we had a baby an the buggy didn't fit in the boot easily. 200 is great for day to day, and on a hoon I reckon it's faster than the Trophy as it's so bloody capable, but for fun factor the Trophy has it (not by loads though)

Looks ok but a damper refurb hasn't been mentioned. They were about £500 from BG motorsports, but I think I saw something saying others have had the refurbed elsewhere for less (?) but you'd have to get on Clio Trophy or Cliosport forums to confirm that. Fred at BTM is a top guy to take your clio to so I'd be happy about that

The MOT had NO advisories! Which is good, but do you think that the MOT would pick up on a need for a damper refurb?

I doubt it. I would think all should've had a refurb to be in top working order, mine car went about 2.5yrs ago and people were doing them then so...

... but only until 3yrs old it seems, as with nearly all new cars.

Asking prices for under 20k miles cars only 1k down this year on last year when I bought mine.

Guess that means they're being valued on miles and condition not age after first 3 yrs, which is typical for popular performance cars and looks good for future values smile and that's what I'll tell the wife after just forking out for KW1's.....

Now you're asking, can't quite remember, think they leak and go bouncy. From what I seem to remember if you can bounce the front when it's stood still they need doing. Front should be really firm when pushing down on suspension. Honestly, cliosport will be the best place to ask as there's loads of knowledge on there

cliotrophy.co.uk have a thread on most of the cars in their owners register but you have to register to read it. I've checked and there is a thread on 219.

Info here: http://www.cliotrophy.co.uk/forum/showthread.php/4...

Owner prior to the current was on ClioSport as Race2theRedline, & it was sold in June 2012: http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?6399...

Service history etc is good, but the dampers havent been refurbed yet. Easiest test for these is to simply bounce each corner of the car in turn, they shouldnt really move if the dampers are fine, if they are knackered it will bounce.

If its of any interest, mine (linked earlier) could be purchased for less than £4k. Im simply not using it anymore - its just sat on the drive looking sad.

Thanks Johnnytheboy & Sir Dave, that site was very helpful.

The car has not had its dampers refurbished.

Does that mean it will def need them doing, or do the dampers on some cars not need it.`

I guess i have to try the bounce test!

Has it got 170,000 miles on it?
