I'm putting together the next 'Foes Reunited' story for PH, and am looking for the views from past and present owners of the Renault Clio 172 (it's going up against the Honda Civic Type-R). What do you love about them? What are they like to drive? Are they good to own? Have they been reliable?

Would be good to hear what you think - and how, if at all, your views of these cars have changed since they were launched.

The last 'Foes Reunited' piece can be found here:
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?f=23&...

We're looking for the 'Previous experience' section to reflect your views of these two great cars.

Thanks for your help, and look forward to getting your views!

Which 172? The Ph1 or Ph2? The two cars drive differently, with the Ph1 seemingly being the "drivers choice"

If it's the Ph1 I can help out.

I've had a few, owned a Wiiliams, a ph2 172 and currently have a cup 172. Also had a couple 97/98 civics

Sorry for the delay, chaps - from October 2001, so it's a PH2 car. Mind you, I'd love to hear opinions on the PH1, too smile

What do you reckon to it? How have you found it - and most importantly, how do you feel it compares with the Civic? Back in 2001, Autocar called the Honda CTR the winner in a twin-test with the 172 PH2. Would you say that's still the case today?
