Simple enough to adjust ride height. Just a matter of using an adjustable dummy shock

[quote=Motorsport_is_Expensive]I've just chucked my 106 at a garage to have a new axle plus a SPAX coilovers kit fitted.

The lad was saying he's not sure how he could lower the rear, as it takes a special tool to do the job.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for having the back lowered? Get your car out of that garage and find one that no,s how to do the job as you can fk up the ajustment on the length of the torshon bars which will ware away the end of you axel tube....or get a manual and do it you self..

Just thought I'd mention it here as a future reference for someone - tricompetion.com (like a french demon tweeks) is currently doing brand new 205 and 309 GTI complete rear assemblies for €390 incl delivery to the UK.
Seems like a bargain.
Wouldn't surprise me if other French vendors are even cheaper.

Good shout LB; I see they have one for my 106 XSi...

http://www.tricompetition.com/fr/traverse-essieu-a...

Or do they? Seem to remember Euro XSis being different...

Edited to add that IM Axles fully reconditioned beam is 'only' £195 and I guess includes more 'bits' like the trailing arms etc?

They also do a complete beam for €390 - not XSI spec, but the bare beam you linked could be built to any spec hence why they categorise it as XSI.

That site isn't offering 205 gti spec cross tubes as o/e part number is for base model tubes.

This tells me at the price they are asking, the cross tubes are Chinese versions, and cheap for a reason!

Having experience of building an 'as new' axle for someone who was on a strict budget, I wouldn't entertain building another axle using a pattern cross tube.

that's the problem with so called 'specialist' companys

you don't always get like 4 like exchange

as said, they have supplied you an axle with a lesser spec 205 tube.

now if you had come to me, i would of supplied DIRECT replacement, and maybe even BRAND NEW GENUINE crosstube

Have you considered repairing it, all parts can be bought to make it good again and it's good fun, rebuilt one last year for a 306

I rebuilt my rear axle for my 205 GL 3 years ago.
And I just dit the same thing on a Peugeot 205 Junior that i picked up for free in september.

You don't need to change the entire axle, provided that the tube is not endommaged. When the bearings around the axle fails, it starts to trim the tube and that's not goot.

Bearings and axle are easy to find in France in any car parts distributor (around 100€ per side).
