Back in February my ratty but much-loved old 205 was loaded onto the back of a truck and taken away to a mechanic. There was one question: Will it ever work again?

After several weeks of poking around, he appears to be about to answer in the negative. He has had it running very roughly by removing the air flow meter but as soon as it is reconnected the car dies. Without the car running he is unable to diagnose the myriad other problems that no doubt plague the thing.I'd very much love to save the car but it's looking increasingly likely that its last trip will be to a scrapyard. Sniff.

Does anyone know of a) somewhere that can check and/or repair an airflow meter and ECU, or b) whether those bypass chip things on Ebay would work sufficiently to get the car running temporarily?

Not sure about the airflow meter but didn't these have an ignition module bolted to the side of the distributor housing or next to the coil that were common for failing .I think it was the same Bosch unit as an Escort and a Citroen bx.However it's a long time since i have done one so may be completely wrong.

You need to find someone with a working 205 and then start swapping parts over.

I have a maf from a 1.9 here you can have cheap.
Other options are that there is an air leak after the maf but before the throttle body. I also have a phase 1.5 1.9 ecu here.
