I need to replaced my leaking rad. Anyone done it themselves? Any top tips other than take it to a garage?

easy job mate. unless you're a complete novice?

where abouts are you? as there maybe someone on here who could do the job for you for beer tokens.

if attempting yourself, just check condition of hoses and while at it the metal water pipe on inside of drivers inner wing.

parts are still available to buy with ease

Thanks. I'm no novice with mechanical stuff but the things I'm qualified on are rather different. Already picked up the rad - 36 quid! result....

It's not that bad a job. The main issue likely to be rusted bolts and difficult to remove hoses. Spray everything up in penetrating oil now.

Buy a high flow ally one off eBay, straight replacement , lighter and more efficient.

Easy job.

Where are you based?

Takes about an hour to swap rad then you'll have to bleed.
Depends how original your car is and therefore how much is in the way,

Slam panel off.
Grill.
Top and bottom hose.
Lift off!

Replace the metal pipe on the lower hose.
Replace the jubilee clips with stainless versions.
The nissens Ali rad is a good replacement.

I already have a replacement rad but are the other parts you mention easy to come by?

Jubilee clips generic.
Water pipe is still available from Pug.

They tend to rust, whilst your there replace it, cheap.
