Just bought a very nice D-plate phase 1 205 GTI. I'd love to do some of this myself but I'm *very* time poor and as its a good rust free example, its a shame not to give it some attention now. Paintwork is fine and has original patina so I'd rather not get it resprayed just yet, but I would like to get it as close to a concours car as possible.

Car needs:

Mechanical
- Full inspection (understand it was rebuilt 500 mile ago but have no documentation and its very tappety)
- Full electrical inspection/rewire etc where necessary (e.g. cigarette lighter doesnt work)
- Brake skim/calipers/pads

Cosmetic
- Seat leather recolonise
- Carpet replace
- Plastic/controls replacing (wherever needed)
- Full Engine detail / replacement of any brackets/panels tarnished beyond recovery

Who would you recommend in the west midlands (or reasonable distance) ??

With cars like the 205 you have to be willing to travel rather than sticking to a local catchment area.

I live in Surrey but take mine down to Miles @ Pug Racing in Fordingbridge, Hants and leave it with him whenever it needs the bigger jobs doing that I can't sort. He's done lots of bits to my 205 now, the main one being sorting out the electrics by stripping back the loom, tidying wiring, and new multiplugs, and the car runs like a dream now with no niggly electric problems like it had before.

He also wont push any work on you that the car doesn't need and give you a decent overview of what needs doing, etc.

Fairly certain he has a fair few contacts as to trustworthy people for bodywork, interior stuff, etc smile

I had a look in this forum this morning as I was going to post a thread asking about who might be best for the restoration of a Clio Williams.

I bought a bit of a lemon off PH and it really needs a full strip down and going through (including paint).

If you don't mind me piggy-backing onto this thread - it would be good to get a recommendation for someone who might be up to doing this in SE England!
