Peugeot 406 HDI wont rev above 2000 RPM

My Peugeot 406 HDI engine managment light has come on and now will not rev above 2000ish RPM. It idles fine and starts straight away though, any ideas?

If I had to make a guess, it's gone into 'safety mode', because of a fault somewhere. You need to get it on a diagnostic machine I reckon, or get someone to read the fault codes for you.

As said. The warning light is obvious,"there is an engine fault",its gone into limp mode to stop you causing any unnecessary damage.So go and "limp" to a small Peugeot/Citroen Indi`to have the fault codes in the ECU checked,its the only way to diagnose the fault.

Hi Im in ashford not sure how far that is from you? I can drive the car but not far or motorways as it wont do above 60mph I think its possibly the EGR Valve.

I'm in Westgate, there may be someone with the diagnostics close to you who posts on here... http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/index.php ...there's a thread on there somewhere with a list of people who've got it and who are happy to help out other owners. Have a look but if you can't find anyone nearer give me a buzz and we can arrange something.

Thanks, I have managed to find someone local with diagnostics so getting it read tonight, hopefully its nothing to major as its done over 200k and is a bit shot if im honest, so not worth throwing much money at.
