Saxo gearstick

The gearstick on my Dad,s Saxo went all sloppy last night . You go far left for 1st & 2nd ,far right (over to the seat) for 3rd & 4th . Cant get over far enough for reverse. Is this a linkage problem ?? ie has a bit broke or come off under the stick. Thanks

The ball on the bottom of the stick may have come out of the pivot. Or possibly the bushings may be worn, but that's usually a gradual thing.

Linkages are easy enough to replace if it's them.

There's a part that bolts to the baulkhead that's common can still remember the part number even after 10 years!
