Thanks both. Appreciate the responses I know I am being a pain in the ass asking all this stuff.

Had 4 wheel alignment done at wheels in motion last weekend and the car is spot on now.
Did they adjust castor and camber and, if so, how?

No its not camber adjustable. Youd need shims for the rear and camber bolts for the front (dont know if they would fit standard suspension I am sure they would).

I was going to get cup racer shims on my old Clio GT as they I think they would fit and I had H&R Monotubes all round with Tripple C bolts.

The only options you have to increase front camber are adjustable top mounts or eccentric lower control arm bolts.

Guys,

Off to see Cup-S tomorrow (new pre-reg). Will be used as a daily, zipping around country roads as well as slogging up and down motorways.

Couple of quick questions.

1). Nav or Cup? I love a well set up car and like it a bit firm (oh er) but not stupid firm, and I won't be taking the car on to a track. For what it's worth I thought my E46 M3 was a bit soft and my 111r Sports Racer Lotus Elise great. Also how much difference does the LSD on the Cup make in the real world vs the non LSD NAV?

2). I know it depends on options but what should I be paying for pre-reg car with no miles (well 16!)

3). Options - any must haves (and must not have?)

3). Other car I am looking at tomorrow is a Golf R. Quite like the AWD aspect as I live in Scotland BUT it's looks a bit dull!

Winter tyres on the Meg will be more effective in bad weather than a 4 wheel drive on summer tyres.

This is a first look see and I have not tried to find my ideal spec yet but this is the one I'm looking at tomorrow because it is nearby:-

1 owner, R-Link Multimedia system with 7" touch screen, Tom Tom Navigation and Voice recognition, Manual air conditioning, Electric front windows + drivers one touch, Electric adjustable door mirrors, Cruise control + speed limiter, Renaultsport Monitor, 4x20W radio/CD/MP3 with Bluetooth hands free, USB connection, Fingertip controls for audio system, Aux-in socket, 'Guide me home' headlamps, Akrapovic titanium exhaust line, Heated door mirrors, LED daytime running lights, Tinted glass including windscreen, Isofix system on outer rear seats, ABS/EBD, ESP + ASR traction control + CSV understeer control, Red brake calipers, Keyless entry, Limited slip differential. Yellow, £25,000

I think a golf r would be a better daily without a doubt. I'm driving a focus st at the minute alongside my cup packed nav putting the daily miles on the St and forgot why I bought the megane having only had some brief gentle drives in it but took it out last night and gave it death for 45 mins. It's brilliant.

On your test drive make sure you get it on some twisties and spank the st out of it as that's where it sets itself apart from the rest of the bunch I think. Town driving and a commute in congested traffic will make you wonder what the fuss is about. If you like running it through a few gears in a straight line then a golf would suit you better. If you like corners then the megane is better.

So liquid yellow with akra and R link? Seems like £25k is an awful lot for it TBH.

I sold a standard Cup-S for around £7k less than that, those bits don't make up £7k IMO!

Cup S. LSD is a definite must have and the suspension isn't stupid firm.

A lot of discounts were to be had right at the end. But the Akra and Liquid Yellow paint were fairly expensive options ~£22K is probably about right with that spec.

Well yeah, but he was asking specifically if the LSD itself was worth it

Plus a Nav with the Cup Pack is more expensive than a Cup S with the same options. And you don't get stickers (clearly this is the most important bit laugh)

Lol yeah. I was after a Cup-S with recaros and 18's (My budget was max 20k) or a well specc'd 265 for less. But a NAV came up with Cup chassis with recaros and 18's for 20k so bought that on a whim. First car I inquired about was a Liquid Yellow Cup S with the required recaros and 18's but the stealers never responded so went with a flame red nav. only thing i wish it had were the Ohlins and Akra exhaust. I just think the Ohlins would make the driving experience even better, I am thinking about fitting Ohlins and Composite springs from the R some day.

Fingers crossed the dealer mentions the magic RS Button during the test drive.

For info its by your right knee and oblong in shape, next to the Auto Stop Start deactivation button and the dashboard dimmer control.

Without it you'll only have 250bhp to play with and less sense of the adjustability of the car.

I think what you mean to say is 'I sold one for around £7k less than that. That was the bargain of the century though, a never to be repeated unbelievable offer. Lost my hat on that deal I did. The owner was evidently incredibly wise and astute. Not to mention handsome and hung like a donkey'

Well just back from the test drive - in typically Biblical Scottish rain.

It was FUN! Been a while since I have a grin on my face whilst driving. Not hugely fast, but easily fast enough - and I'm sure the engine will loosen up once it has a few thousand miles on it. Great steering feel, nice cornering, firm but very competent suspension and a pretty good manual box. Oh and very Yellow which is a good thing. Pops and bangs from the exhaust when it got hot was a childish plus.

I think I have had enough of grown up sports cars for a while. Teetered home in the XRK, crawling round wet roundabouts on full alert for the first signs of it wanting to face the other way or just not bother steering - whilst cosseted in it's beautifully plush cockpit.

To hell with it - I'm going to buy a baseball cap, put it on backwards and piss about in a Yellow Megane Cup-S for a while I think.

Out of interest, are the headligths any good?

If you imagine the most stupid place that you could put a button and you will find it there.
