Serious considering these for my next car, however, there are hardly any for sale (apart from K-TEC) with a decent spec. I take it they are quite popular used buys?

There's always loads for sale on 'RS Megane Collective' Facebook group.

It has taken me much longer than I'd hoped, but I finally own a Flame Red Cup-S biggrin First PH Fleet article coming soon.

Nice! Looking forwards to it and reading what spec you've got.

Thanks! First PH Fleet article is going live tomorrow.

I do have the Ohlins, although they need rebuilding as they're knocking. I guess this is a fairly common issue now for cars that have them – I saw over on the RSMegane forum someone suggested they should be rebuilt every 4 years or 25K miles.

I've been quoted somewhere between £360-630 (just for the front dampers) at Mick Gardner Racing depending on what needs doing but they don't offer a drive in drive out service, so that requires swapping them out with something else. I've picked up a set of Cup dampers and Eibach springs for £150 and removal and refit is going to be in the region of £300 so not a cheap exercise by any means, but from my limited experience with the Ohlins so far, totally worth it.

Just read it - nice article. Shame about your Ohlins. I have no frame of reference to compare them against the Eibachs but my RS was my third Cup, but the first with the Ohlins on it. They were absolutely tranformative vs the standard set up.

Mine had done nearly 40k and were absolutely fine. One of the perfohubs was gone though!

What do you think to the Akra? I think there are better sounding systems on the market for a fraction of the price.

Looking forward to reading more!

There was another car the exact same spec I was looking at a month or so ago and it had the same problem with the Ohlins; I think it's going to be fairly common now for the cars that have them. I intend to drive it back to back with a friends 265 Cup but from my memory of how my 250 rode with H&R springs on Cup dampers, the Ohlins are considerably better and worth the effort and cost of the rebuild.

The Akra is definitely muted, which is a bit disappointing. So I've removed the parcel shelf and boot carpet and that has instantly made it a lot louder when it's hot, so I love it biggrin I definitely couldn't justify the option cost as an aftermarket system though.

Be good to get a 275 some profile. It had great coverage through its production life but now everything is Meg 300. When the Meg back catalogue was class leading.

Also good to read how your refurb of your Ohlins goes.

Cant be many cars with then across Trophy R, Trophy & Cup-S. Maybe less than 100?

Obviously the Clio Trophy Sachs refurb well known. Had a set done myself, but then that's fronts only.

I have a end of line Full Spec LY Cup-S. Only thing I have changed is taking Cup-2 off & putting PS4S on.

Assuming you have the Ohlins too then? My car isn't going to cover many miles this year so I may potentially hold off and have the Ohlins rebuilt in the spring, but will ask Mick Gardner if there's any potential damage that can occur from leaving them or not. The knocking is only at slow speeds and doesn't seem to affect handling at all, whereas when I had the Sachs done on my 182 Trophy then felt very baggy and in desperate need of a rebuild ASAP.

Yes I have Ohlin's too. But my car is ultra low miles being a Sept 16 Car on 11k miles.

I am keeping my eyes out for a worn out spare set as I guess some people may go to Nitron's or KW when there Ohlins need refurb.

I was lucky when I got my Clio done as my local mechanic had a spare set of Sachs they let me refub & then fit to my car they took the worn sachs back. Pity none of the suspension specialists don't have an exchange set. Even if you had to pay a refundable deposit would make the process easier.

Then I can get them Refurbed & swapped straight in.

I am thinking of cleaning mine (on the car) and wiping over body of the shock with ACF50 as I they suffer badly from corrosion. Mine look lightly corroded and I think its only seen 2 winters on the road.

Very low mileage then! Some used KW V3s popped up down the road from me for £650 which I was very tempted by, although I still would have kept hold of the Ohlins to refurb/sell with the car at some point.

Agreed though that it would be very handy to get an exchange set rather than having the faff of changing over twice.

Great tip with the ACF50 too thanks, I'll have a look into doing that myself!
