Hello,

Can you give me some feedback on this one please.....?

http://www.shmooautomotive.co.uk/product/renaultsp...

We've had a Renaultsport Clio 200 for sale and in stock since last August. It's in really nice condition, we helped supply it to a pal who's in his late 50's and a serial sports car man. (It actually came direct from a Renault showroom) I'd like to think it's presented well on our website and the price is very competitive. It's been on eBay, Pistonheads, Autotrader.

We've NEVER had anyone come and view it, nothing, narda. We sell £20k to £70k TVR/Lotus/Classics so this is not our normal stock, but hardly exotic or not in keeping with our sports car stock/profile etc.

Only interest we had was from a chap who couldn't finance his lunch and a chap looking to get out of his ST Fiesta that he owned too much on. So not really what I'd term as strong enquires.

Is it too cheap??? Are they all slow at the moment? It's the only car in 25yrs I've never been able to sell.

Thanks,

Ed - Shmoo Automotive Limited

Wrong wheels, no recaros, no xenons, no cup packs and probably a little over priced.

The power figure is massively optimistic.

I'd look past it too TBH.

Feirny has hit the nail on the head. I think the price needs to be much lower to tempt a buyer as it has none of the desirable options

I'm just going on the dyno report with the car from K-Tec. It's actually £8499 on PH.

But thanks for the input.

I'd take that with a cupboard full of salt. The K-Tec thing alone would make me avoid this, they split opnion big time.

You're right on the options (except you could never have Xenons on a 200, and there is only one 'cup pack' which is the suspension and red brake calipers)

They're tough cars to sell, we struggle with them too. Black is a tough old colour also.

You've out '207bhp at he flywheel rather than the 171bhp from the factory'? What do you mean by that?

Yes, sorry. Forgot they dropped the xenons after the 197!

This is what I mean by the 171bhp vs 207bhp.

I've had 5 Renault sport clios over the years, had much bigger machinery but always come back to a Clio, such a great driving car.

The example in question looks very good, extended warranty is nice and probably cheap to extend covering any gearbox issues. The only thing would stop me personally from buying would be the modifications. Speaks track day to me, I usually only buy standard. And they're boomy enough without an exhaust system. I do like black tho.

So KTEC say a car that should make 197(ish) bhp at the fly is only making 171bhp? And with a remap and exhaust they can make it gain 36bhp?

You can see why others doubt their abilities!

Thanks, and yes I know what you mean. But the mods were only done 2000 road miles ago. It's never been on a track. He has an Ultima GTR for that. It was just a weekend toy for a man who likes his cars and wanted to do a mod on it to get the best from it. It is loud, it is fast, and it is fun. Maybe I'll just put it back to standard...so someone can go and modify it again...Ha ha.

Yes, but very few cars produce what they say on the tin. Especially if exhausts are re-routed due to differences in RHD to LHD. But that's another debate. All I know is the dyno shows a 36bhp difference, so it's more powerful and I guess quicker. Which is a big part of a hothatch.

I'd avoid it, sounds like it was broken before having anything done to it... Not enough power over the standard 200 to bother with imo.

I do like these clios, my brother had one of the older Clio 172 cup cars and it was a hoot, I borrowed it for a track day and had as much fun in that as I do in my own track car.
I'd rather my mrs sold her Evo which she doesn't use the performance of and got one of these instead. Cheaper to run and as much fun to drive although obviously not as fast.

Hello Folks - I am the previous owner on this car. Perhaps I can throw some light on the subject.

The reason why it was only producing 171 was it had had a de cat and straight through silencers put in by me believing a local tuning firm. But without a good exhaust and a remap it ran like a bag of nails. Rich at the bottom end and then lean at the top end. No power and a big hole at 2250 to 3000 and faltered on wot. I drove it less than a 100 miles before booking in at Ktech to sort it properly.

Ktec diagnosed crap exhaust and that a remap was needed to match new Ktech exhaust and CA intake so that is what they did. It cleaned up the low response so it runs sweetly and simply put it back where it should have been just 10 more BHP than where it should probably have been. The poor set up with the bad exhaust was the reason for the 171. A std car would probably be closer to the 197 published by Renault. The biggest difference was the throttle response. So Ktech made 10 or so more bhp over a good std set up.

Hope that makes some sense of it all.

I looked everywhere for a non Recaro non cup chassis as I am a big lad and wanted to fit the seats and to have a teeth filling friendly ride. I have had enough miles of track suspension on the road.

Funny how beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Then the advert needs changing. It probably did come with the right power from factory!

It does look bland and plain in black with thise wheels and no recaros. Too much money without the redeeming features.

Maybe just removing reference to it being massively down on power from standard would help? Added new exhaust and had it remapped so now up on power from standard?

Thank you very much people to all those with positive and well informed comments. I've edited the advert and it's on the website as well as PH at £8499 now.

I hope someone comes along and takes a look at it at the very least, seems a shame for such a nice and fun car to be sat unused on a trickle charger frown

Regards,

Ed
