I’m starting to look around for a replacement car, and with my criteria of comfy, reasonable size and economical, the Laguna 1.5 dCi in theory ticks a lot of boxes.

Do they tick the boxes for comfortable and economical? I do a 200-mile round trip commute twice per week which is all motorway – all I really need is for it to sit at a decent cruise and return >50mpg.

Is a 1.5 going to be horrendously gutless? I can imagine that engine in a Clio, but how does it cope with the size of a Laguna?

And will it work? The last Laguna in the family got bought back by the dealer when they couldn’t rectify the growing list of faults. Have things moved on since then?

I have a Laguna 3 2.0 DCI. I can't comment on the pulling power of the 1.5, but my wifes Clio 1.5 goes great with only 86bhp, so a Laguna with 110 bhp should cope OK.

Comfort wise I thinks they're great cars. I drove 1300 miles in a week over the Easter school hols and a 300 mile round trip to Dundee a couple of weeks later. Stick cruise control on and off you go. Get a Dynamique spec to get the toys that make it a nice place to be.

The 1.5 in the Laguna is no rocket ship but it will cope fine with it, it is a great engine, very smooth and torquey (sp?).

They are great cars, not the best looker but very refined, reliable, very well put together and very nice interiors and best of all they are cheap as they were unloved.
