Hi all, ive just bought a 2008 207cc for my wife and although she really likes it she has said that its quite loud when accelerating and thought the exhaust was blowing.
Ive checked the exhaust and it fine but it looks like the noise she is hearing is coming from the air intake due to the 2 open holes on the side of the airbox.

Should these holes have a cover over them or is this how the intake is supposed to be?

It seems strange that the air is drawn in from the front of the car and then expelled into the engine bay before being sucked in again?

Not sure on that particular car but having 2 intakes isn't normal. Likelihood is there should be a resonator on one of the holes to quieten down the intake noise. Some previous owner has obviously liked a bit of intake roar.

I did it to my focus, sounds much better without it!biggrin

Yes that's how it is suppose to be, I would check that there is a filter element in the filter housing on top of the engine.

ok thanks for the confirmation. Ive also just replaced the filter so no worries on that front.

still seems like a strange design to funnel cold air into the engine bay and then suck it into the engine from the engine bay where its going to get heated up? Why not a sealed air box like most cars and take the cold air directly from outside? Crazy French!
