Just went to Halfords, parked close to the entrance and 2 workers came out for a cig break.

One looked at the car and then said to the other "What's that? an Aston Martin?"

I couldn't believe it.

Looks nothing like one to me but I mentioned it to a mate and he says he can see a bit of Aston in the rear end.

Mine has so far been mistaken for an Aston Martin, the latest BMW, and a prototype of the next Jaguar saloon hehe

After the comments I've had I am not surprised.

The first time i just shrugged it off. 2nd time Aston Martin was mentioned I just found it so funny. Unlike you I have had no other lookalikies so far, just the 2 Aston Martin comments. I'm intrigued to know what will come next.

Out of interest do you have a physical copy of the owners handbook? I got nothing with mine, not that or a service book, or the boot warning triangle. Just deciding whether I need to get onto DS for copies.

All I got was an invoice saying the dealership (Marshall Nissan Leicester) had serviced it. The back story is Marshall Motor group owns the lease company who originally supplied the cars the customer did not take for whatever reason. Then they decided rather than offloading to a 3rd party they decided to move them on themselves.

Also, any ideas on servicing going forward? DS have quoted me £1,335 for a 3 year service plan (Average £445 pa). I've never gone this route before, normally the 500x would cost circa £300 inc MOT and I pay as I go.

The DS9 does not come with a physical handbook but the main dealer can get one for you. I asked them to get it as part of the deal, it turned up no problem and it fits nicely in the wallet with the service book.

There's nothing that isn't in the PDF but it's somehow nice to have a physical manual as well.

Thanks.

I have the online PDF one but i'd feel a bit happier with a real hard copy (fleabay have them for £12), and a folder with service book.

I'll get onto DS and see what they can do.

I don't think I told you, because we had issues with the test drive a month or so back I escalated the issue and DS resolved it. Then a few weeks ago I got a call from a guy I'd been speaking to and he offered us 3 complimentary grandstand tickets to the London E-Prix at Excel which we attended last Saturday as a family. Was great fun. DS do care at the top level, I think its more about changing the mindset of the dealerships to make them aware they are trying to sell a premium brand.

I'm struggling with the android auto setup. Might be the phone or the car, dunno. Can link the phone via the USB closest to the driver but as soon as i take the USB out there is no link. Gonna play with it.

Also gonna try with the missus Iphone and see if that's any better.

Noticed this morning the almost identical one to mine at Marshall motor group has gone. £25k. Had 267 miles on the clock. Mine had 100. That seems like the last of the crystal white's out there. I felt I pushed the envelope on it as much as I could, would never have taken the gamble of waiting for the last one, I'd have been gutted had I missed out.

By the way I saw my first ever C5X on the road yday. 600+ registered so far and that's the first I've seen in the year since they were launched. Vis a vis I'm not likely to see one of the other 76 DS9's out there.

Following on from an earlier comment about soundproofing the boot I had a look the other day. Looks very straightforward. The top floor cover just lifts out and then underneath is a big plastic polystyrene wheel shape with the tyre inflation kit in, Lift that out and there is a thin mat above the base metal which also pulls out easily. It's probably be an hour of a job max to cover the boot floor.

The sidewalls above the wheelarches i would leave as they are, they look a pain to take off...... but feeling behind them after dropping down the rear seats seem to have something in there already. That said I'd like a bit of insulating wool or similar just to push in to try and make the area quieter. Wheel surrounds are apparently a major source of road noise.

Finally with that polystyrene spare wheel shape object hardly holding anything apart from the tyre kit I think I might invest in a spare wheel size/ shape underfloor storage compartment to keep all my bits in.

That is interesting with the dealership. I agree they do seem to try hard, they are trying to build up the DS name and they seem to be going the extra mile to get customers. The only comparable company I can think of is Lexus.

Mine didn't come with a warning triangle, I have one but it is too thin to be kept in place by the strap on the boot lid, I will probably solve that by just wrapping a towel around it.

Do you reckon that a space saver spare wheel would fit under the boot floor? I was thinking of getting one.

My feeling is the head of the company are trying to create the brand, but the dealers stuck in the old world and accustomed to a general level of service are slow on the uptake. I thought the Chiswick branch seemed a bit meh, the bit of the showroom dedicated to DS maybe had about 6 models in it but all of those were DS3's and DS4's. Seems weird they didnt have the higher moels in there, even if this isnt a sweet spot it would make sense to me....say someone might walk in looking for a DS4 and get talked into a DS7. Upper models also show what is possible. With me 4 days into owning the DS9 what still stands out is the opening and closing of the doors; they are beautiful.

I bought a car kit because we travelled to Paris in August and a few things were mandatory. I havent tried the triangle in it yet, might be inclined to keep it in the carry bag.

A space saver would definitely fit, the space is there for one, perhaps something like a 165/80 r17. The important thing is the diameter and radius I think should be within 2%. Tiresize is a good site to compare this..... your tyres btw are 235/ 45 r19.

I'm thinking of this type of thing for the tyre inflation kit plus other selection of tools etc that I have https://www.car-bags.com/en/other-products/sparewh...

At some stage I'll probably get a boot mat too. The car I test drove had the DS branded thin plastic one in but It felt flimsy. Might be tempted to go for a rubber one which should give a little more sound insulation and have more quality.

A random observation I have vs the PHEV which I test drove is the family believe our car rides better. the extra 300kg in the phev made the suspension firmer and then the adaptive suspension overcompensated and often made it wallowy, well thats for the bits it did see. Our car is more consistent.

Could you just confirm you are using android auto wirelessly? I'm having problems. The phone pairs to the car so i can make calls etc, but when i then want to use android auto i need to plug it in.....to the socket closest to the driver. For some reason it doesnt work with the other USB.

I will look into getting a spare wheel, I feel much more comfortable with a spare, particularly on continental trips.

I'm not using Android Auto or CarPlay at all, that's too much modern technology for me hehe I'm just using the native software.

I'm a bit averse to spare wheels, for nothing more than the reason the 500x had one and it ate up about 1/3rd of the boot space, reducing it to 300litres which was too small. Thinking about it maybe i should get one too.....or take my chances.

It's a shame you don't use Andriod Auto. Personally I like it and it works OK on the system......if only I could get the thing wireless.

Had more of a play with the car this evening. It won't have escaped your attention that it rained in London today, lol. i used a guide from here, works well https://service.dsautomobiles.com/DSddb/index.html

Didn't realise the cruise control had 2 buttons round to the rear, in a great place but really invisible if you dont know they exist. Took it down the A3 for a spin and I'm comfortable with the system now, even using the mem function to set the speed to the prevailing limit. What does annoy is they didnt add adaptive cruise control.....with all the tech in the car such as collison risk alert it would have cost very little. Instead the top and bottom cruise control buttons are both "MEM", in the adaptive world the top one is the distance for the adaptive.

The lane departure warning apparently kicks in at 43mph and you can feel it in action.

I'd like the parking sensors to be a bit more consistent, and the blind spot monitoring to have an audible warning not just the orange dot in the mirror.

The wipers have novel features. "Auto" is a godsend and worlks well. Then I thought I'd try the screenwash, instead of the nozzles spraying from afar they are incorporated in the wiper blade support, an excellent idea. Then I noticed something......use the wipers and they sit in a position where you can see them....but if you dont use them for about 20/30 seconds afterwards they retract down out of your eyeline. Good idea to take them under the end of the bonnet.

I hadn’t heard of these, and now I really want one!!! What an interior.

Not one for sale in Northern Ireland. Probably a good thing for my bank balance.

The interior is a nice place to be that's for sure, the Alcantara is very cossetting and the build quality in general inside and out is top notch.....apart from the few odds and ends from the lower models parts bin. Some say they went a bit too far with the different approach. Personally I'd have liked them to have gone a bit further.

I did turn off the "driver welcome" feature but thought sod it and turned it back on after a day. When you get into the car the seat sits in a retracted position, then when you press the starter button it electrically moves you into you driving position. Adds to the sense of theatre.

One more thing I found out tonight is the front seats have a 4 directional button on, i thought they just added or reduced lumbar support.....well they do but forward/ backward adjusts the support and up/down moves the support up and down my back. I had no idea.

Amit- I have just come across the app "Scan my DS" which rates very well. I think it uses that guide I referred to above and tells you about almost everything. I find it better than the pdf user manual I have.

You’ll quickly get used to the cruise control. Had it my earlier Peugeot and the exact same controls are in my DS7 and it becomes second nature after you’ve used it a few times. If I remember correctly, the adaptive cruise was only on the highest spec model (ultra prestige, I think) and a pretty expensive option on lower specs hence why it’s missing.

Agree also with the dealers. I don’t think they’ve got the message yet on how they want to present the brand. My local dealer had the dedicated salon with all the posh leather seats and moody lighting et al yet when we where doing the deal, it was over on the Citroen side which I’m really not bothered about but if you want to differentiate the brand from other Stellantis stuff then you have to do it from start to finish.

I am however absolutely smitten with my car and it’s only continued to impress me the longer I’ve owned it. I’m sure you’ll be the same with your ‘9’.

It never dawned on me it's a great place to put the cruise control. I couldnt think of a better location. A few motoring journalists have criticised it but ergonomically seems great to me.

It's funny with the dealers, perhaps the brand is not yet quite strong enough to have it's own bespoke dealerships, but then it's up to the company to try and move it in that direction.

I could see why you're smitten. I think it's a car full of little contradictions, some good, some bad, but that's what makes it lovable. Some examples in my DS9.

Why did they put ZR rated Michelin Pilot sport 4 tyres on my DS from the factory? Surely comfort tyres without the Z rating would have been better suited to the car.

The flappy paddles arent actually flappy. The surrounds are fixed and then the end bits just tilt ever so slightly.

The electric window switches are 2 stage for small up/ down and full up/ down.

My car feels well made and rigid but at the same time light vs the german competition.

Can't help feeling a diesel would have really suited the car but I suppose they are being phased out. On the plus side it does make it quiet. Also I expected a less linear power output from something with 140hp per tonne but it does ok imo.

The car makes you feel special, I don't think id ever get that from a competitor.

Found out via the my ds app there is a firmware update for the car from ds update. About 6GB in size. If this provides minimal or significant improvements I am yet to see. I don't know where my little USB drive is so will buy another this afternoon.

Also I signed up to the first 3 years free tomtom satnav. I'll see if it's better than waze in due course. I havent been to the car yet to try it. I'm hoping I can get the satnav on the 12 inch driver display so can keep the big central screen free for heater controls/ radio/ bbc sounds podcasts etc.

On the servicing, I am yet to pursue a deal but DS want £1,335 for 3 yrs. A delaership called evans halshaw have quoted £439 for the next 2 yrs, one major one minor. Shame there isnt one near me but i do travel up north a few times a year to see family.

I've done all the firmware updates. No appreciable difference although the built-in sat nav display is better.

The map updates (for the built in sat nav) are separate.

It does take a little while to do the update in the car, so it's worth planning a little drive around it (you have to keep the car running during the update, obviously).

The real question for me is whether they will upgrade older cars to the DS IRIS system which is so much better and which now comes as standard on DS9. I hope they do...

How many have they sold in UK? Big French cars have always been wonderful but also huge depreciators.

Finally managed to sort the firmware update this morning, took about 25 mins. Not much difference that I could notice.....apart from....

The Andriod auto icon lights up these days but still isn't wireless, but I think it could be in a few steps. I'll play around with it, and if I have no luck I'll contact DS.

After signing up to the free 3 yr tomtom I've been playing with that, seems good, I can get it on the driver screen, directions in the diamond to the right, and speed in the one to the left. As I now have TomTom i dont think there'll be much value in updating the built in sat nav.

We're off to see family Sat-Wed so should get driven 600 miles or so. Mine is still showing just 300 miles at the mo.

Mike - they've sold 77 https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/?q=ds9&commit=Se... and correct they are huge depreciators but I didnt pay for it.

Forgot to say I was wondering if the firmware update i installed today would change it to an IRIS type system.

I wonder if it's not possible because the new system may perhaps require better hardware. I'll ask DS if there are any plans if i call them.
