......has anyone here got one/driven one?

What are they like? - how do they handle (they're mid engined IIRC?) Are spares hard to come by? How much luggage space is there in the back? (I was about to ask if the rear seats folded, then realised there was an engine in the way)

Could you use one as a daily driver?

So, it probably doesn't take much to guess I'm not exactly an expert. Could someone give me a quick idiots guide to them? smile

They're rear engined not mid-engined.
Four decent seats.
Parts supply is good & bad (depends upon the part and/or your nearest dealer).
If you're in Essex, one of the best guys to talk to is David at ART www.alpinerenaulttuning.co.uk (near colchester)

and check out www.renaultalpine.co.uk

I stand corrected .....so given the positioning of the engine, do they handle in a fairly similar way to a 911 with the same momentum oversteer?

I think you'd be amazed how hard they grip, but ultimatly they do let go rather impressivly. You'd need to be a bit of a tw4t to have a real problem with it on the track, and a complete 100% platinum class tw4t to have a problem on the road.

Awesome car. Very underrated.

My Baby-

Nuff Said

Well maybe not nuff said.

I bought my car about 3 years ago, and I've loved every minute of it (well maybe apart from the clutch fork breaking while in London {I'm from Belfast} and it costing me over £1000 to sort it!). The car handles really well and would be comparable to an 80s porker turbo for acceleration. The fuel tank's in the front, so for it to be perfectly balanced it needs to have a full or nearly full tank. I have taken it round a few track days and only on the damp trak did I find the limits of its lateral grip. I also ran it once or twice at a drag strip 'run wot u brung' and got a 14s run with a dodgy second gear. If you can get a nice one buy it and don't look back (you'll not need to wink )

Bide your time and you'll find a good one. Some of the 89/90 cars will have ABS if you're worried about brakes, they handle great, much less likely to spin than a 911 of the same era. I've only once managed to get the back loose - big tyres you see.
And yes, the back seats do fold down! And there is some luggage space in the front too.

My father in law had a Le Mans special edition one which was beautiful. he took me out in it only once and i was very surprised how fast it was bearing in mind the Le Mans edition was catalysed and reduced power to 185BHP from memory I thought it very quick, effortless. He only took me out once in it as it burnt to the ground the day after unfortunately.

Love these cars, fancy one as my next if I can find one! Just gotta wait a year or two as I'm still getting quotes of £900 (23, 4 years NCB).
