Hi All

Another new major problem to add to my list...Driving home tonight at about 45-50 tops, my engine suddenly made a very strange and loud grinding noise, then the engine stopped.

It wont re-start, when you try to start it it turns over but doesn't fire...when it's turning over it sounds as thought it struggling a bit and it sounds slightly more high pitched than usual...have had to be towed home yet again!!

Any ideas of what this latest issue might be would be great.....as the heap is supposed to be having an MOT tomorrow!!!

Many Thanks

I agree sounds like the cambelt. My mates snapped and caused £500 worth of damage. Bent valves etc. He dropped a used lump in it in the end as thats often the cheapest way to do it!

My old mans snapped on an Omega 3.0 V6 years ago, that cost £1800 so it could be worse lol smile

i cant afford anythin else to go seriously wrong with this one....in 11months i had to replace Gearbox, Clutch, Battery, Glowplugs, Alternator an loads of silly bits and pieces....already spent more on repairing it than what i paid it for

Could also be a dropped liner, a friends 306 did that recently. Not much cheaper though I'm afraid. Get it checked out by someone in the know and if it's the cam belt it'll probably be easier to just cut your losses and buy something else.

Its a kick in the teeth but that's what you get when you buy a car with no service history!

Take the cambelt cover off see if the belt is intact, check the intercooler pipes see if they are full of oil (turbo fubar) .Take the alternator belt off make sure the tensioner or the alternator haven't seized.Take it to the scrappies.

we're hopefully gonna start taking some parts off it next weekend....gotta get it from Portishead to Dorset first.

As soon as we got it off we'll sort something out.
