hi r 5 gt turbo was alot quicker to 70 then just about any thing at the time did have probelms with good uno turbos had mine with 18k on in 1989 3 years of mental fun didnt miss a beat but used to eat spark plugs every 3000 miles the best pocket rocket ever made you get a good one and will give most modern hot hatchs a hard time on a b road today.

i owned a 205 1.9 gti 130bhp non cat in 87 it was fantastic , i then got a new 205 1.9 gti before they were discontinued when cats were introduced the power was down 122bhp and the car felt rubbish,i hated it. you could no longer hold second to 70 .the gearing felt rubbish ,it did not have the power band that the old one had.i sold it after 6 months ,i bought a clio williams 3 . now that was a brilliant car the handeling second to none and speed to match .i used to get overtaken by clio 16v s all the time in the pug on straights .the clio williams definately corners and accelerates better than all of the old hatches, the williams was the best of the best in my opinion.

Yup yup

Its a lil cracker

mines cammed up so pretty nippy handles well too!

But it doesnt touch the older and more expensive hot hatches i.e the 197 amd 182's but for the money and insurance rating it doesnt work bad.

Following in the Saxo's footsteps I guess. Nice to see that Citroen didn't feel it necessary to pile too much weight on the C2, unless it's heavier than it looks. Are the paddles any good? I found the ones in my Smart a bit of a handicap (they could be very slow).

Doesn't touch the Saxo/106 from what I've read either!

I haven't driven many of the cars mentioned here, but have had the pleasure of owning a Renault 19 16v, and two 5 GT Turbo's. The 19 16v wasn't the fastest car in the world - the motor lacked torque and when the power came, it wasn't exactly a big kick up the ar5e. I had it rolling roaded and it put out a healthy 147bhp (super chip, air filter & exhaust etc) However i loved the handling. Very grippy and you could get lift off oversteer on demand.

For me though, my favourite hot hatch is the Renno 5 GT Turbo. Not the best handling, certainly not the best built - but massive fun. All the rattles, whooshes, bangs and farts coupled with that torquey motor that when modified revs as high as any 16v car is what does it for me. I remember leaving it in 4th, and letting the turbo do the work - unbeleaveble shove for a carbed 1400 eight valve. It's such a shame most now have silly bodywork add ons and bucket seats.

One day i'll have a mint Raider - standard body work & wheels, lowered suspension and a nice 170bhp.

Better hurry up though, mint standard ones are going up in value at a silly rate!!!
