Ok,

having been and bought a bulb from Halfrauds, I'm trying to replace the off-side headlight.

After much swearing, cuts etc...it seems its not a simple job.

Looks like I can go in via both the wheel arch (which I can just get my hand into with full-lock on the wheel!) and also by removing 57 clips under the bonnet.

Any suggestions (short of hunting down the designer and kicking his stupid fking head in?)

What age of Megane? Earlier Meganes it's the nearside headlight that's tough!

Think there was a thread on HonestJohn.co.uk (or it might have been the Telegraph motoring supp) in the last few weeks, commenting how car designers are encouraged to build in difficulties like this to keep the dealer network in work.

Sorry - should have said - it's a year old, so latest shape one.

use the hole in the wheelarch if doing main beam or sidelight

any other and you need to take the headlight out really, either way it's a barsteward of a job and takes time and patience

Its the H7 halogen headlight.

Yes, I've tried in via the wheel-arch, and it was tighter than a nun's clunge* in there.

I've been told that going under the bonnet and removing the black plastic fro behind the unit can give you a bit of access...but the next time I'm going to get a look in daylight will be next weekend (Friday). So, I'm stuck with the horribly unsatisying situation where we have a car with a headlight out that I can't sort for nearly a week.

I am seriously going to harm the person who designed this if I ever get the opportunity.

*technical term, nothing to be offended by
