Hahahaha!

will there be an economy version made from balsa wood?

seriously - waste of time!
That's the "motorsport" version - lightweight, innit!
Here's the thing though. If Hewlett's using it on his road car, on the road, it doesn't matter if it works or not, it's still hilarious and will earn great ridicule. If he did that on a race car, and it works as well as Hewlett says it does, it wood be ridiculed up until its first race when the car walked away with the trophy, then at the next race everyone wood have one.
edited for correction hehe
I should have known someone wood do that.

Now we have established that this is not a wind up, can I point out that this 'masterpiece' of engineering is attached (well sort of) to the strut top mounting cup and not the body as it should be.
The top of the strut needs to change angle relative to the body as the suspension moves up and down, due to the changing arc of the lower suspension arm.
If this 'strut brace' has any strength (which I doubt) it will have caused your cars front strut piston rods to bend.

I've fitted my bucket seat and FMIC with chunks of Dexion racking from a Cadbury's warehouse in Birmingham.... Nothing wrong with a bit of improv!

Pics if anyone wants to see....

Save time and hassle doing the rear one, instead of fitting and making one for the rear, just fold the rear seats down flat, get better weight distrubution, and lowers the center of gravity of the car, making it handle even better wink

If you Ronsealed the wood the stiffness could be improved although I've heard French Polishing can have the same effect but this will require considerably more effort.

nono That does'nt just lower the centre of gravity, it actually makes the car lighter.

Come on guys, this isn't that unusual. In fact I heard of a guy who built an entire car out of wood. It had a wooden chassis, wooden wheels, wooden seats and even a wooden engine.

There was just one problem.

It wooden go.

Good point, that means I wont have to drill holes in my brake discs, my chassis rails and both A and B pillar to loose uneeded wieght either, as the seats folded flat will equal that, however if you were going super light I would do all of the above fold the rear seats flat, pull the passenger seat forward and fold that back, putting more even weight into the middle of the car, which helps keep it level

  • Anyone who tries the above is complete mong, especially the drilling of structural items on there car
