Hmm sorry to hijack a bit. I have a 197 and im thinking of trading it in for a 200, would i really notice any difference?
Mines a 197CUP with just white paint and seats. no leccy windows ac etc. Love it though
Continuing this theme - what's the general feel for what these cars are like to live with day to day? Does the interior rattle like a typical French-built car? Is day-to-day ride quality decent or too harsh? Stereo good enough? Is it really noisy on a motorway run? (e.g., excessive road roar) Does it feel built down to a price or a quality bit of kit?Mines a 197CUP with just white paint and seats. no leccy windows ac etc. Love it though
I just bought an Alien Green 200 RS Cup (Black Speedlines, Recaros, Air Con, Cup Spoiler). I bought it used (6000mls) from a Renault dealer.
I picked it up last week, so no pics yet, but I've done close to 800mls in it over the holidays and must say I really like it. I intend to use it as a cost effective track tool. As my daily drive I have an E92 M3 and although I absolutely love it, I feel it is too heavy and too expensive to drive it ten tenths on a racetrack. Driving the Clio compared to the M3 is a little bit like flying a Spitfire compared to an F16. The M3 is stupidly quick, very refined and an impressive GT, whereas the RS (especially in Cup spec) is light, nimble and very basic. It makes you feel very connected and involved.
The only gripe sofar is the ridiculous seating position: the Recaro's are sitting around two inches too high, in relation the steering wheel is too low and my car isn't adjustable for rake. I'm of average height at 6'2", but I sit worse than in an old Alfa! On the other hand, I didn't expect a car that costs 25% of an M3 to be perfect in all respects, since the Clio was built to a tight budget. I intend to rectify the seating position shortly, and expect then it will be a great tracktool.

Had the FF 200 for a year and a half.
Daily driver on the a/b roads of Aberdeenshire.
No issues with rattly french pish so far but it's early days
Equipment levels on the FF make it a pleasant enough place to be - but they do rev high - wouldn't fancy too long a motorway cruise in it.
Horses for courses - mine's a hoot

The basic stereo is good and has an AUX connection as standard and good steeering wheel controls. Mine is pretty good on the rattle front, I did have something rattling at the rear, seems to have stopped now (3000 miles in). I suspect it is the known issue with the boot lock. I don't find it too noisy on a motorway but then I'm only really comparing it to my DC2 which was much noiser and had crap acoustics. The Recaros are comfy but are a little on the high side for my liking. I'm 6'8" and find it spacious and comfortable.
Overall I find it easy to get on with but considering I don't even have remote central locking on the DC2 its easy for me to be impressed by it. I suspect the way you feel about the ride, noise etc will depend on what else you drive or have driven.
I've averaged around 26mpg (according to the trip computer) with mainly city driving.

I remember seeing the DR clips ages ago and thinking it's a stonking car. What is the throttle response like compared to a 172cup? My 172 cup had immediate throttle response whereas my 182 trophy there was a bit of a lag at the top of the pedal perhaps due to DBW.
172 Cup was DBW too...daveknott5 said:

No rattles or squeaks or loose trim, quiet at the legal limit and hardly any tyre noise. Its a bit plasticky but reasonable quality. I have the full-fat version with the cup chassis so it's nicer inside than the bog cup version, better trim, steering wheel etc etc and virtually identical performance. Get a standard cup only if you do lots of track days otherwise you lose out on a lot of kit.
They are not that easy to drive at slow speeds, the clutch is a bit awkward and the gearbox needs getting used to. Pulling away needs practice especially when you are in a hurry. The cat thrives on revs and is bonkers at high speed driving, it just grips and grips and if you keep the revs up it really motors. I can confirm these cars are quicker than a Honda NSX but im guessing the guy had an automatic
MPG is st for such a small car. I get 28-30 and have gon as low as 23. A friend has a 2008 Honda Type-R and she gets 26 so its not that bad.
If the car wasn't so amazing on twisty roads I would score it overall 6/10 but because its such a hoot and has such a fantastic chassis, its a 9.5/10 for me.

If you are planning on regulary driving more than 2 hours at a time I would advise against the Recaros, I was commuting to Richmond not so long ago and by the time I was getting home my ars had gone numb and my legs felt like lead weights, they are fantastic for B road blasts though.
Mine has developed a rattle in the dash by my right knee, but as said above the Cup has a cheaper dash and door cards so this may be part of the problem. Either way they are fantastic cars and am chuffed to bits I decided to get one.

There is also talk on renaultsport.co.uk about a convoy from Guildford to Oxford for the SS on 30.1.11.
