Fabulous day, and thanks to all. Special thanks though to Stuart, for his calming influence on me when the rear nearside Avon decided to partially de-laminate after Penrith. I have only just felt secure enough to come out of the toilet.
Looking forward to seeing you all again soon, when I will be on a nice new set of Turbospeeds.
Oh, and in light of the photographic evidence, I had better lay off the profiteroles meantime.
Take care, everybody.

Blimey, hope that wasn't too dramatic. Still, useful spanners man to have with you to change the wheel smile

Hi, yes i also meant to say both the turbo,s looked superb, i should have used my loaf and given my address you would have been welcome to call for a brew as there was not many turned up,
the turbo R sure is a class looking car i tend to take mine a bit for granted but seeing the two at the rising son made me think,
also the old bentley my old boss used to own one like it, was a green car poss brooklands green? the paint on it was so thick he used to have me wet n dry flatting it to get it like glass. he also owned a black open tourer circa 1926-30 looked just like the old racers cept it was not superchargerd and it was black he upgraded some items so he could drive it with confidence in europe. maybe someone will recognise his name Tony Smith unfortunatly not with us any more and he taught me some good life morals etc he is missed,

All in a day's work. Good job it didn't come totally apart, that would really have focussed the mind. I did feel a bit guilty for just "getting on with it" - that was just sort-of my disaster-investigate mode.

It turns out that although fine in the tread-depth department, Batrover's tyres are quite old, and one of the treads had aged to the point where it had lost it's attachment to the tyre carcass. A 12-inch section of the tread came detached and was flailing around inside the wheelarch. Mercifully on the inside where it didn't affect the bodywork.

Having established that the brake lines were unaffected and that the carcass strength similarly wasn't affected (and that there was air still in the tyre), I elected to send him the last 20 miles home on it, particularly I'd judged that changing the tyre on the motorway was more risky than the remaining journey.

Message for all - Modern tyres have a date code on them - a four-digit number denoting the week and year (such as 3208 for week 32, 2008 for example). Please read yours and decide if you need to keep them on the car. I'll not embarass Batrover by publishing his tyre's dates

No embarrassment here. BOTH nearsides are '95 vintage although I had no idea. A good year,but..... (pun intended.) Replacement Avons ordered and on their way to the garage. Offsides are youngsters from '07.
A valuable lesson (if expensive) learned. Learn date codes.

Glad to hear that you're both OK, which is of course the important thing smile
