Been using Shell and BP hi-octane. But is it necessary? Had to fill up recently on normal and could not feel difference. Would normal work fine in long run or cause a proeblem?

Thanks.

My '94 Turbo R has run for over a year in my care on regular unleaded without a complaint, least of all from my bank manager.

My 1990 Turbo R runs great on whatever unleaded I put in her at the pumps.

I have a '98mdl Brooklands R and have covered nearly 40,000 miles in the past 3 years. I have been using 95Ron and getting good performance with anything from 16 to 20 MPG (mainly steady and motorway driving with the occasional autobahn temptation!). I have heard 98 or 100Ron recommended for increased performance and economy - but I don't think I need to spend the extra cost per litre given my current return.

If you're really pushing hard, the knock sensors cut in and wind it back in a touch earlier if you're not on cask strength, that's all.

I like to run mine with the mixture a touch rich and on the good stuff, but it's fine on regular.

The engine in a Turbo R is over-sized, under-stressed, low-revving, so really does not need anything other than a good quality regular unleaded. IMHO
