Good evening friends.
Well, the honeymoon with the Arnage is over(ish).
Following a fairly noisy and embarassing protest from the power steering, it was discovered that the car had secretly divested itself of all its hydraulic fluid, without activating the central hydraulic fluid warning on the dashboard display. Brilliant.
Having got it to my specialist I was informed that the true culprit was a slow leaking rear shock absorber, and no other major components had been damaged as a result.I was encouraged, briefly, but the excellence of the shock absorber while in life did not prepare me for the shock of the cost of its replacement. £1000 quoted.
However, I am told by the engineer that these can be sent for repair,at a fraction of the cost of replacement, and reliably so.
I have no reason to doubt the advice given, and the car is still under the dealers warranty, but I wonder if any of you have previous experience of sending shock absorbers for repair, rather than replacement, and can advise if it is a good option,or a false economy.
P.S. I still love the car.

I'm guessing that they are Bilstein Shock Absorbers. I've had Bilsteins refurbed my their UK division and no complaints.

Lucky me. Dodged the bullet again.
Turns out there was a leak in a pipe near the shock, which was ok after all. Repair, plus one or two bits and pieces that needed sorting, including four hours labour- £273.00!!!
The man is a saint.
Thanks again.

Nice one Mr B! Is Mr M picking up the tab? Much easier on the old wallet than £1K for a shocker!
