I have an Alpine unit in my Turbo R but at some time the CD player has been removed from the centre arm rest. I was hoping to find a CD unit but I cannot find the ID of the Alpine head unit. Does anyone know what was fitted to 96 Y cars as standard or if an alternative Alpine CD unit would be compatible.
Just Re-MOTd as well. NSR spring pan replaced.

I've recently removed an Alpine system from a 1991 car, which I think had a milti-changer, but in the boot rather than the arm-rest.
You're welcome to it if I've still got it.
Do you know what connector style it is ?

Rather than mess about with a CD changer why not add an ipod adapter instead. On my Alpine I still have the CD changer but have an ipod adapter in the glove box. This plays through the Aux1 setting. With hindisght I would have put it in the centre arm rest as you cannot control it from the head unit. You do however get a far greater range of music

The cable to my centre consul is like an S-Video connection but a bit bigger.
Did someone say they had a CD unit spare? PM me

All I have in the glove box is a lead coming in with an apple connector on the end. The other end of the lead is connected to the unit. I am not sure whether it is connected to the head unit or the main unit which is in the boot area.
It was a cheap fix at an auto sound dealer, about £50. So all you need in the arm rest is the connector and an ipod. Tons of room!
You need to make sure that the cable will charge your ipod as on some of the later ipods the charging pins were altered but even then it is possible to get an adapter if you upgrade your ipod.

When I had my Turbo R, I replaced the alpine head unit with a new Alpine unit having i-pod connectivity and bluetooth. The cd changer (in the boot) was not compatible, but no great loss with eight days of music in the i-pod, controlable from the head unit.
I kept the original head unit, and swapped it back over when I moved the car on.
The new unit is now giving excellent service in the Arnage, although it is not the best fit in the dash. I fold the wallnut cover down when anyone comments, and the Bentley emblem revealed shuts them up pdq.
There's nothing wrong with a bit of utility with your luxury. Just keep hold of the original bits.
