Turbo R Electric seats & mirrors

Guys, I've recently bought a 1991 Turbo R. There's a problem with the mirrors. The drivers seat works fine - until you try and adjust a mirror.... Adjust either mirror and they both move together. However, next time the car is started both mirrors rise up as far as possible and then a relay under the drivers seat keeps clicking... Whilst this is happening the drivers seat refuses to move. I think it's all looking for a memory position? Tried switching battery off - no good. Or following instructions to clear memory... No good. If I manually push the mirrors down each time I re-start the car after a couple of days everything returns to normal (ie the seat works again) until someone touches either mirror control (and anyone getting in the car seems drawn to them!). Any bright ideas please?
