Hi can some one please help with an electrical problem on my 93 Bentley Brookland.
I can start the car and all is ok but as soon as I indicate using the stalk the rev counter, amp meter switch off and the battery warning light comes on. As soon as I place the stalk in the central position after a second everything starts to work obviously not the indicators.
The hazard lights work ok and cause no problem I have fitted a second hand indicator stalk but still the same happens any ideas or contact details for help.

I would start looking for a rubbed wire causing a short around he dash / steering column area.

I had an issue recently with a radio blowing fuses, it was a wire touching a sharp edge and had just broken through the insulation. It was very hard to see and I spent ages looking for the problem.

Pull the wiring as clear of the car as you can and attach the old switch, see if it works. If so definitely a short.

It may also be worth trying another flasher unit, known to be good.

Do all the flasher lamps work on hazard? If yes, that proves all the wiring to the lamps and the lamps themselves. If this is the case, then there will almost certainly be a short in the wiring in the steering column.
PM if you need any more help.

Thanks all for the advice, on investigating the problem I went to the boot area because I remember fitting a new bulb holder in the indicator on the O/S rear I pulled the panel away from the bulb holder and the problem seems to be now ok so I wonder if the panel when fitted was touching the bulb holder causing the problem.
Another issue is I have a heavy Amp discharge causing the battery to go flat in a couple of days I used a meter and discovered that the fuse when removed from the rear boot area on the O/S the bottom one stopped the drain does any one know what this fuse controls working on car at moment. Electrics are never easy.

Electrics are just plumbing. If you put it in one end and it doesn't come out the other you've got a blockage or a leak. No scarier than anything you'd find under the kitchen sink.

On my 91 the fuses in the OS rear wing are:

1. 20amp Stereo
2. 20amp Antilock brakes
3. 20amp Rear window de-mist
4. 20amp Adjustable rear seats if fitted
5. 20amp Amplifiers
6. 10amp Antilock brakes

Happy hunting
