Looking at getting an earlier car (04/05) and my main concern is comprehensive service history, of which I have no clue what that is.

What is the maintenance schedule?

Is it oil and filter every 12 months regardless of mileage?

Seems many for sale claiming FSH with '6 stamps in book". At 2004 it should be 10+ surely...

The service intervals are 10,000 miles or annually, which ever comes first. The cost is on a menu pricing system, so for example, the spark plugs are replaced every 4 years and the brake pipes on, I think, service 7. See http://www.pmcuk.com/content.asp?id=84 for full details

Last February, I bought a 28,000 mile, 2004, Continental GT with "full" service history. However, that servicing must only have been the basic oil and filter change, because the car was a totally disappointing bag of nails. To look at, and drive, it was sublime, but so many of the secondary systems let it down. For example: the heated rear screen had given up the ghost (£2600 to fix), as had the drivers side rear quarter light, which needed assistance from a forefinger and thumb, to fully lift it back in place. (Very emmbarrassing, when folks are looking at your "cool" car.)Tyre pressure monitors had died, and several scary lights on the dashboard had begun to manifest themselves. The upshot being that, after six months, and literally thousands of pounds in repairs later, I swapped it for a new Audi S5. I have since found out that you really need to find an improved post 2006 car, with more mileage on it. These cars don't like sitting around. I hope you find enjoyment in your purchase, but as far as I'm concerned, even if I won a multi-million pound lottery jackpot, I wouldn't buy another Bentley. Regards. Tim.

I keep saying that you need to buy a GT that has main dealer service history, but this seems to fall on deaf ears. My rear screen was also buggered, but the replacement only cost me £500 via main dealer.

Surely it should cost most around £50 on windscreen excess... ;-)

In 10 years time, if you show the S5 poor maintenance, it will probably have just as many faults as the Bentley had. Remember both cars are made by the same company.

Saying this, Bentley main agent I was speaking to says stick with the later cars, sort of 2007+

100% agree to stick with 2007+, though 2006 did have many improvements. The 2004/2005 models had 'growing pains' and some 2007 have troubles with the false air leaking hose, which means engine out service. Please don't ask me how I know the costs of this for a 2007 GTC frown
