Hi Guys
I have recently purchased a Bentley GTC. It is a good straight no stories car, 2007 with 28,000. It runs as you would expect and I am pleased with it. There is a "but", my wife is on my case about a "noise" that appears to come from the dashboard area (passenger side) that she informs me sounds like a "wirring noise".
To be frank I cannot hear it whilst driving and can bearly hear it whilst she is driving.
My local Bentley specialist (whilst very good) is reluctant to get involved (he reasons that I could end up spending a fortune and still not getting to the bottom of it), (fair comment!).
Anybody been down this road before?

I had similar noise in a Continental R. It turned out to be a parking ticket which had dropped down the
windscreen air outlet and rattled in the air flow. Difficult to get at but when I turned all the air at maximum blast through the screen I could eventually grab a corner and pull it out with a tweezers. It was comfortingly a ticket for polo at Cowdray Park!!
Of course your problem could be something completely different!

Thank you for your reply, it is nice to see that your cars previous owner had standards. I am unsure if I want to look in my air vents as these new continentals have a bit of a chav image, it may me a receipt from sports direct!
I also run a 1995 continental, it is not an "r" but a "s" model. It depends who you speak to but most people believe that they only made 18 (in the 1995 model year only).

I recollect that Alan Clark used to run a Continental S among his stable of cars. Would be great to see some photos of yours if you have some.

I looked at one of Alans Continentals at Nine Elms once upon a time. I can't remember if it was an S or an R but I do remember it had tweed seats which struck me as rather unusual at the time.

I remember it being a dark maroon (non-metallic) with black alloy wheels (well before it became the fashion) - not sure about the interior.

Hi John.

It might be the Sat Nav disc spinning. Mine makes a noise sometimes for no apparent reason, i.e, when it's not in use.
If you open the glove box it might become more noticeable.

Any chance it's the cooled seats fan under the passenger seat?

I'm only saying because when I picked up my GT Speed it was whirring slightly from the passenger side and I eventually worked out the passenger cooled seats were turned to low.

Hi guys
Many thanks for all of your suggestions. I shall look (and listen) carefully to all of these points. My local specialist (Herne Motors) as mentioned is very helpfull but is worried that if he starts running up a bill for work it would no doubt be costly and with no guarantee of success. He did mention ( I had his arm up his back at the time!) that iF we were to start looking perhaps it is something like a sticking heater control, it sounds like something is trying to "start" ( like a small motor or something).
One of you chaps asked for a photo of my continental S (1995 model). I have taken a couple of snaps on my iPad. Could somebody please post an idiots guide how I now upload it to here.

MANY THANKS FOR THIS THOUGHT. THIS SOUNDS MORE LIKE IT. THE NOISE DOES INDEED COME AND GO EVERY FEW SECONDS.

Hi John.

Another though for you. I have just replaced the Brake vacuum pump on my GT as it has seized.
Prior to finally giving up the ghost it became noisy and yes, it is a whirring noise as it is an electric motor driven pump.
It is mounted behind the left front inner wheel arch cover and can be heard from inside, especially when the passenger door is open, RHD models.

The best way to check this is to press the brake pedal a few times to deplete the vacuum reservoir, then leave the passenger door open and start the car. You should hear the pump whizzing for a short while whilst it creates vacuum.

The pump is a generic part by the way and the one I bought from Ebay was from an Audi A8 W12. Same part number but a lot less expensive.
