After running some searches on google, yielding no real answers. Could someone please tell me if they know if the bumpers from Rolls Royce Silver Shadow Mark I, can fitted to a mark II instead of the standard black bumpers?

Or can you get after market chrome bumpers to fit the RRSS MKII?

Cheers,

Q.W.

Jordan.

Gday Q.W.

It is possible - but you do need to do some bodywork to make them fit by extending the mounts.

Here are some photo demos of it being done in Japan.

Good luck!

The Japanese T2 that is being converted looks to be a US spec car. The bumper assembly looks bigger than on the non-US cars and you can just see the fuel flap in the C pillar which is a give away. I suspect that might make it a more difficult exercise to convert than a home market car (where there will be no 5 mph stuff to remove)

Hello Jordan,

Firstly thanks for the reply, Those pictures seem promising to me. It has been done at least!

I think, personally, the chrome bumpers are more attractive. However, I seen a very dark green shadow II, with the rubber bumpers, that actually looked nice. With the Wraith, 2 part, non-vented hubs.

The colour and hubs compliment the rubber bumpers well on the shadow in the link below.

The video title does day "Silver Shadow II" on closer inspection I think that it looks like a wraith, is it?

Cheers,

Hello OLDBENZ,

I've never looked into an American version, but that is good knowledge to know. So the American, including Japanese Variant, had more engineering about the bumper? meaning that replacing the rubber bumpers for chrome ones on a UK RR SS II would be easier (Less messing about, if still some!)?

I might be wrong, but I was under the impression that the T2/Shadow 2 bumpers were the same for all markets - the reason they became rubber was for the US market, but they just kept them the same for the UK.

But, as I say, I may be wrong.

Hello Matt5791,

I have to say it would seem most likely that the cars would have the same bumpers, purely as that would be the simplest and less fuss way. How ever, saying that... Royces don't tend to be "no fuss" in most respects!

I wonder if someone knows if the American and Japanese bumpers are the same as UK variants definitively?

Thanks,

Q

MPW Royce; you have 4 "begging" posts against Matt5791's 201 (often wonderful) ones. You should make the effort to read them.

You would be well advised to be a little more humble when asking others for help in a specialist forum.

I have your answers on this topic, as well as other issues raised. At this point however I do not feel you are worthy of them.

I've dug up a couple more examples of cars that have been changed.

Hi Everyone,

I'd been looking on the internet for a while before I did this bumper swap. This is my RR Series 2 with series 1 bumpers.

They are stainless steel reproductions from Bumpers Auto Mobile in Vietnam. The front bumper had to be trimmed about 1cm around the grill to make it fit. The bumpers themselves are hand made and took quite some time to make perfect.

It took approximately 42 hours of work. It was completed by Double Jack's Garage on the Sunshine Coast in Australia.

I've included one photo of before as reference.

I hope this helps anyone who wants to do the conversion.

Also some extra photos of the mounting brackets that had to be fabricated. [url]

Excellent, thanks for posting.

When I saw the first photo I thought that the top of the new bumper went all the way back to the front panel but then I saw that it's mounted above the 'modesty' panel; is the slightly reduced grille height noticeable 'in the flesh'?

I know that a company in Vietnam has made bumpers for the Rover P5s, I wonder if it's the same one?

Hi,

You don't really notice the slight increase in height because the bumper is significantly thinner and more elegant than the original series 2 bumpers.

I had seen other people who had done the conversion (there is a good video on YouTube if you look for it) and they seem to have gone under the modesty plate or trimmed the modesty plate.

I think that this looks better. Series 1 always had the plate under the top of the bumper, similar to this.

I think this looks good but ultimately if you don't like it, don't do it. It's your car. Make it how you like it.

I agree, it does look good; I was just curious and I'm not looking to change - having had it for >15 years and it being in the family for >35 years I've become accustomed to the 'new-style' bumpers biggrin.

I guess it might be similar to the later SZ models, where they reduced the grille height on the 'New Spirit'; unless you really know what you're looking for, it's only really noticeable if an earlier and later model are side-by-side and even then the vast majority of people wouldn't know.

Anyway, good result.
