Hi dazzalse,

Getting back to the mulsanne are you happy with the colours etc You got in the end?

Went for my first little drive today in a couple of weeks and am just loving the car tbh. It feels very very nice, both in comfort and how it drives. Pleased with the purchase so far.

Found myself sitting in the car earlier actually with my baby daughter for over 90 mins while the Mrs was shopping etc and just watched a film and did some business emails etc and didn't even feel tired or bothered by the time spent in the car (which is new) as it's such a nice place to be. Mrs can not believe her luck lol. Said I should have got one years ago!

Cheers Russell.

This thread was a great read, I can certainly relate having almost entirely given up on sports cars in recent times!

I had a very similar experience to you with the F430 Spider, though mine was an 'F1' gearbox. The points you made were all reasons I do not regret selling it and don't miss it at all. Reading your write up on the Mulsanne will certainly make me consider such a car next time around. The way that you have described the workmanship put into the car, I'd certainly appreciate that sort of thing myself. Though currently I have a new Range Rover since I love the commanding view through the vast windows and the cavernous interior is very useful as I have a young family (and a baby on the way).

The spec of your Mulsanne is great, the interior stunning, and from the outside it is classy but still has that proper 'Bentley' look about it. Very nice, enjoy.
Thank you for your kind words sealltt , I also love the Range Rover and use one as my daily driver, although I'm sure yours is much newer...... Mine is a late 2006 (2007 M/Y), 4.4 Petrol, Blue with Cream Leather, a rare car, as when these came out with the improved suspension / cornering, everyone moved on to the TDV8 - So I know where you're coming from on the Range Rover front they are a fantastic car and although mine is now 10 years old, it's still beautiful to drive, has an almost silent cabin and is great for our 2 Pyrenean Mountain Dogs (once the back seats are folded down of course - they need all the space they can get).

It seems the "cheap" mulsanne deals seem to be tempting quite a few people.

I have also just changed from an older flying spur to an 18 month old mulsanne speed with less than 2000 miles on it. I also considered the rolls phantom and ghost but the phantom gets replaced soon and the ghost is a bit too similar to my 730LD and I thought having both you would compare them even more but I still love the series 2 ghost and I'm not criticising it as I think they are a great car.

I don't subscribe to the old man car analogies either as I like anything that is top of the line and whether you're 30 or 100 (I'm 37) if you like this type of thing you're kind of limited to a rolls phantom, mulsanne or merc maybach's etc and I expect to go to a new shape rolls phantom after this car in a few years time.

Similar routes in regards to previous cars after numerous ferraris and Porsches etc but thought it would be nice to have a special car all the family can enjoy.

Mine was bought from GC motors up in Harrogate and I was happy with the deal as well though I didn't realise they were selling brand new ones at £165k lol. To be fair my car has everything apart from the bottle cooler and tv tuner (not sure which one I'll miss most) and I thought why not go for a car with less than 2000 miles at less than half price so these cars are great "value" at the moment.

Regards the driving they are a totally different drive to the spur and don't go round corners like that car but I'm finding that just sitting in the car and the ambiance of the car mean I'm not in such a rush to get where I'm going if that makes sense and it is just a wonderfully comfortable car. The quality of the materials are just on another planet from the older Spurs as anyone who has one will know. I especially love the small round vents on the b pillar, I don't know why I always think of those but they are so well made and seem dinky compared to the bigger ones but wonderfully crafted.

I spent the first weekend I had it just sat in the front and back playing with all the settings and gadgets so I had a good handle on the car. I also figured that if you use an old iPhone 4 as a "dvd" changer you don't have to mess about changing discs and my old 32gb version holds over ten films (sd and hd). It must be the later iPod cable mind with the red colour on the cable otherwise the video doesn't work. The in car wifi isn't over fantastic either but I've not tried it on a proper run yet.

I thought the Naim audio system is the best thing I've ever heard in a car, I've had a couple of after market systems and the Naim is very good in my opinion.

I also think the fuel consumption is ok for the size of it and the speed's is much improved over the standard mulsanne.

I forgot to mention mine is anthracite with an all black interior. I normally go for black and light interiors but in light of three kids under 7 I thought it might be sensible to have black this time!
Completely with you on the ghost being too similar to the bmw miragee5512 - Good to know you are also enjoying your new car - I found some archived images of it on Google, it does look stunning. How often are you driving yours - Daily?

By the way..... I love it that you're 37 years old and strong enough to make your own decisions, not following the crowd and feeling that you have to buy the alternatives, which are considered to be "younger persons car"

Congratulations! It looks a lovely place to sit either as a driver or passenger. I just don't understand why they have to be so big,

I wish you could buy a smaller car say Audi A6 size, that had the same quality. We don't all want to drive such huge cars. Although I'm probably in a minority of one as car manufactures seem to fill every possible niche.
I don't know coyft - It is madness I admit...... I find it almost impossible to park my Mulsanne anywhere, but I just love driving it and I guess the size and majesty of the car, is part of what makes it so special.

To give you an example we had had the Rapide on order for 18 months and a Ferrari California on order at the same time which both arrived and were delivered to us within 7 days, both costing about 165k OTR, both without any discount, I covered 6,000 miles in the California and sold it for 157k 12 month later, the Rapdie with 2,300 miles on the clock made 95k after 12 months
That Rapide depreciation is shocking..... but don't you spend that in a weekend dazzalse smile

Joking aside, has the new Mulsanne arrived yet, are you pleased with it?

Hi allister,

Thanks for your comments, my parents think I'm a bit mental spending all this money all the time but luckily I'm quite good at what I do so I always do what I want to do as life isn't a dress rehearsal as they say.

I'm Not quite using it daily as I use the 7 series for running up and down to work as I only live a mile away from my business.

Funnily enough the 730 replaced a 2005 supercharged Range Rover that had been in the family for a while (dad 3 years, me 5 years) and we really liked that car over the years but I'm just taking over another business 150 miles away so I thought I'd get my first diesel since my old pick up as I'll be racking up the miles soon and thought I'd save some money.
I will use the mulsanne occasionally for the long trips as I believe you should use a car as much as possible as they are going to depreciate regardless so get your money's worth if you know what I mean and I'll use it as my main car.

The new electronics etc are also so good on the later cars (infotainment etc) that once you get a car with later toys you really want them in everything you drive!

Hope you're enjoying the car.

Russell.

A most unfortunate experience,very annoying.
However just reading this topic of the OP's huge discount he got on his new Bentley it appears that bad practice is not just relevant to AM.
But should we be surprised by shady business practices....they are behaving like .....hhhmmm let me think.....I know ......car salesmen.
With your history of being a very good customer of AM you'd have thought it was in their interest to offer you some recompense in the form of a really good price on your next purchase.
Mmmmmm interesting, maybe you'd like to share what this situation has got to do with car salesman?

You are correct....my comment regarding car salesman was not relevant to the situation.

I just wondered where you keep your Mulsannes? Outside?

I was initially put off buying one because no way would it fit in my garage. Too long.

It'll pain me to leave it out to suffer the elements but seems the only solution.

My mulsanne is outside as my garage is too short.

Bit of a pain as it gets dusty a bit quicker but on the other hand it gets cleaned more!

I know 2 people with Phantoms and they leave them on the drive ( don't fit in the garage )

Can I ask for those that bought Muslanne's, why they didnt consider or decided against buying a Rolls Royce Ghost ?( I know some folk say it echoes a 7 series , but really ?)

My Mulsanne does live in the garage once cleaned and dry..... That said, as my garage isn't heated (yet), if the car is wet or it's raining, I tend to leave it on the drive - I don't know why but I feel a wet car is better outside in the breeze with air circulating and drying it, than a wet car sitting in a cold garage.

Please don't respond and tell me I'm wrong, I'm not claiming to be right - It's just my theory and it may well be complete rubbish!

The Mk1 Ghost does feel very BMW and less RR than is justified at the price, and very different to the Phantom. The leather feels cheaper and there is lots of chromed plastic everywhere. The Mk2 rectified it somewhat by having leather from the Phantom and some other upgrades but I still think it is too obvious where most of the switchgear comes from. Whilst I think the Mulsanne cabin is very nicely done I prefer the Ghost overall as a car to own and drive.

Just resurrecting this thread as it's a couple of years on and wondered how everyone is getting on with their car? Have you still got it?
The values have really bombed as well so wondered about peoples thoughts on how they've dropped? They have got better recently though.
To anyone who is thinking of getting one they are a great car for the money and I would still recommend one as a car if not a safe place to put your money lol.
Also any problems with your cars?
Cheers

Just wondered if anyone has experienced lumpy acceleration on full power? Overtook a few cars earlier and it felt a bit lumpy and the yellow management light flashed and went off again. Absolutely perfect under normal to mid acceleration but did the same thing again under full load when I tried it again.
Any ideas, knock sensors etc?
